I have a 4l60E in a 95 Sierra 4x4. It has a long delay, approx 3 seconds when shifting from drive to reverse. Shifting from reverse to drive is immediate. Any suggestions? Filter and fluid are recent and level is correct. Thanks

how many miles? THe reverse clutches have a tendency to deteriorate to nothing, And they also have a problem that can be cured when rebuilding with a cup plug in the reverse piston. Did this start all of a sudden? or was it always there?

109,000 Had the problem when I bought it in June. Changed the fluid and filter. Problem didn't get any better. When I "jump" on it in reverse the truck will shudder somewhat. Might be the worn clutch you mentioned. I assume reverse will eventually go away altogether. For now I baby it as much as I can when using reverse. am I prolonging the inevitable? Also will the reverse problem cause any other issues with the forward gears?

Thanks for the reply!!!

no I beleive that clutch only really holds in reverse, So eventually you WILL lose reverse but forward gears will not be affected by that drum not applying. But all the crap and eventually metal that come off the worn clutches will get thru the trans and start other problems
