Just did a quick search on the Net for some really fast cars. Specifically to see how close a doorslammer is to running in the 5's. Found that Bill Kuhlmann went 6.001@235 but then found this: (from LAST year!)
Damn - I ws hoping a turbo car would do it. anyone know whatever happened with Annette Summer's Twin-Turbo Covette? (Other than the tire-shaking debut at the above race.)
Mitch Stott shatters 5-second barrier in Darlington

Pro Modified racer Mitch Stott made history Friday, February 14, when he drove his supercharged Radiac Abrasives '63 Corvette to a 5.985-second run during the NHRA Winter National Open event at Darlington Int'l Dragway. Stott's run is the first 5-second run for a full-bodied vehicle.
Stott, of Mill Spring, NC, and engine builder/tuner Jimmy Rector had run a 6.02 at 231.54 mph earlier in the day, edging ever so close to the magic number. With the air temperature hovering around 55 degrees, the air density at about 150 feet below sea level, and a track temp of approximately 80 degrees, crew chief Rector had the crew immediately ready the car for another run.
"I knew the conditions were perfect and I wanted to get the car back to the track as soon as possible," Rector said. "I didn’t want to give the weather a chance to change before we could make another lap."
The atmospheric conditions held for the hour it took to ready the Tommy Mauney-built car. On the history-making run, the Radiac Abrasives-sponsored Pro Mod launched hard, but ran straight and true through incremental times of .957 (60-ft), 2.575 (330-ft), 3.894 (660-ft), 5.02 (1,000-ft), and 5.985 at 231.42 mph for the quarter-mile.
At 2,545 lbs, the car was approximately 160 pounds lighter than is allowed on the regular NHRA AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge circuit, but conformed to all other rules, according to the NHRA Division 2 tech inspectors who went through the car after the record-setting run. There was no weight restriction during this competition.
And how does it feel to set the last milestone record in doorslammer racing? "It means more to me than any drag race I’ve ever won," said Stott. "I sat in the car a minute or so (after the run) and I just relaxed and I said my thanks and my prayers for allowing me to be the one to do it, and just absorbed it for a minute.
"Our names are now etched in concrete for drag racing history," he added.
