i am rippin gout the old and tired 3.8 and dropping in a built 350 sbc with around 400 to 450 horse power.... it would be ideal for me to have that backed by a manual transmission. has any body ever done this or seen it done on a g-body? if soo which parts work the best and how difficult is it.

Is it from a turbo regal? why would u do such a thing? why not just rebuild the motor if its tired? Or better yet, get a monte carlo and drop a 350 in...

I have a Richmond 6 speed in my '86 2+2. We used a junk yard el camino pedal set up, but check the Monte site as I'm pretty sure someone is reproducing the parts, now.

Avoid T5's like the plague. There is a good chance you will break any T5 you swap in. It's best to save yourself future grief and go with a Tremek TKO right off the bat as the Minimum trans.

You will break the 7.5" rear end pretty quickly, too. 8.5" GN rear will work, but the shock loading of a manual may lead to it's demise if you plan on running sticky tires. Automatics preload the rear before the putting the wood to it. A manual trans doesn't and the slop can lead to breakage.

no it is a carbuated 3.8.....what is a 86' 2+2?? what yea was the elcamino?...what cross member did you use?

If you are ganna drag race it, go auto. Willshift faster and more accurate than anyone I have ever seen with a manual trans.

yea you are right but man there is nothing like crushing gears with a 450 horse power motor

You can see pictures of the 2+2 on my G-body home page. It's kind of a Pontiac Grand Prix with a NASCAR nose and back glass/trunk.

Manual Trans A/G bodies are '78-'80 Monte Carlo/Grand Prix's and '78- to mid 80's Malibu's (three speeds) and El Caminos.

I think the Pedal setups being remanufactured are 3rd gen F-body pieces modified to work on a G-body.

If We were doing it again we'd use a hydraulic setup/hydraulic throwout bearing rather than the factory "Z bar". We have this set-up on our Cobra Kit car and you don't have to worry about header tubes and worn, junkyard Z-bars.

The Crossmember we used was a stock one modified for dual exhaust (cut and welded channels for the pipes).

oo nice thanks alot i like that 2+2 ... never ever heard of them though
any body else have any more suggestions?

regarding that 2+2 pic- why is that guy looking at that EXP instead of the Poncho?
not trying to hijack the thread or anything, but i knew of one of those Poncho 2+2's that sat in the same spot at a small town car dealer rotting away for a few years. odometer said 50,000 miles. it was sitting behind the building, kind of out of sight, in tall grass. the paint was faded, the fenders and doors kind of beat up, the rocker panels were gone, the interior was trashed, it was on 4 different 14" wheels, and it barely ran.
but the car lot owner's son wouldn't sell it for anything less than $10k because he "heard it was kind of rare".
what a shame.. why are people like that?
that's almost as silly as the guy that builds his own comp dragsters that had an 84 t type with 56,000 miles on it sitting outside at his used car dealership with a "blown engine" for 12 years..
wait- that wasn't a bad thing. i bought that T-Type 2 years ago for $2000 and put head gaskets in it. got it on a friday and was driving it Sunday night.

That's the owner of the EXP :)

It's cooler than the picture makes it look. I'm pretty sure it was a rear wheel drive "Pro Street" conversion that were big in the 90's.
