i switched from 100% denatured alcohol to 50% meth 50 water and gained 21 hp on the dyno. the guy running the dyno does a lot of turbo mustangs and says he always sees and improvement when going to half water? final pull was 429 rwhp

The older EFI style SMC pump will be toast with any water present in any mix.

Also.. the increase from power can only come from a car thats running really rich, since water displaces fuel leaning out the mixture. But the amount of alcohol, and its relation to fuel used.. play a major role in creating power with straight alcohol.

Straight (alcohol)methanol will always yield more power. As a matter of fact, you'll make power without changes injecting methanol, unlike water that requires something else to change for power to occur. This statement is a proven.

Water doesnt burn. You have tuning issues in either the chip, fuel pressure, or something else. This statement applies to the GN motor/ecm.

I'd be curious to what he attempted to tune. Ie, fuel pressure, timing, VE, etc...

Was he burning a chip? Or do you have DFI and he was pulling fuel out of the VE tables to make up for the alcohol? The statement it made 21 RWHP over straight needs more data behind it. As always the more data, the more learning there is for all.
 
i am sure that you are right because i was running a little rich now that you said that and the water mix helped to lean it down. i have the maxeffort r. so i should go take that mix out and put in denatured or it will mess up the pump

Yup... to lean it down.. TW it down. Target high 700's on straight alcohol, EGT's in the 1500's with ~24 degree's of timing.

BTW what ya doing taking the Buick to a Ford guy :mad:

Next time, call Steve Y. and he'll walk you through the dialing in the chip. And if you had called Steve, he wouldnt of wanted you to Dyno the car. The ME-r is not dyno friendly.
