I have done the search and read a lot of threads regarding this, but still cannot make the decision. I know I am on the borderline with my injectors and I want to step up. I plan to purchase a modded ECM and go bigger. Please look over my current setup and tell me which injectors I should go with.

Fresh 109 block with 206/206 cam, ported big valve iron heads, PT54 turbo, PTE remote oil system, MPE stretch big neck IC, MPE dp, Jay Jackson 62mm tb and plenum, hotwired walbro, Voltblaster, Accufab adj fpr, built 2004R trans with PTS Xtreme 3500 stall converter (9-11), boxed upper and lowers, and Eaton posi, SMC alky kit and I am currently running MSD 50's

This is in a 3500lb GN and I hope to run 10's on ET Streets.

Thanks, Bill

In my opinion I would go right to the 72's. You should be flowing plenty of air to match up with them. No point in running 55's at their limit when the 72's will give you some margin of safety.

Plans For Running 10s?

72s/83s with Bob Bailey ECM & chip + ATR Double Pump (or Aeromotive). Last injectors you'll ever need.

Running 10s is tough enough without worrying about fuel supply or a safe injector DC, which is referenced at NMT 80-85%.

HTH :)

Yeah, if you plan on upgrading that turbo at all, you're going to want the 72's. I'm at that point with my 009's now, running 106% dutycycle! Like they said, better to retain a margin of safety than pay for it later...

-DC

Cool, thanks for the replies....I guess I will go with the 72's. How can I get a hold of Bob Bailey for his ECM mods and chips?

Thanks, Bill

The 65pph injectors can get you to LO 10's. You sure you want 72s? Just food for thought.

72's

I think 72 will work great and still leave you with more fuel in case you decide to go with a bigger turbo.

3,500 is ALOT of stall for a PT54 IMO.

BTW, 10's with a 54 is no walk in the park. I know of one guy who does it (10.80's@12?).....at 32 psi of boost!!!

A friend of mine runs 10.80's with a PT 54 and 50# injectors with stock block, stock heads and 28# of boost in a full body/interior car. Go to PTE's website and look at Mike Price's car.

Scott, please explain why I shouldn't go with the 72's. Will they be tough to tune?

Thanks, Bill

I have a 54 and I think the 3500 stall is just about perfect for the combo. I wouldn't go any lower on the converter!!

I didn't say you shouldn't go to the 72s. The 65s will be minutely easier to work with on the street. Just giving you another option...halfway between the two you were looking at. They might be a little cheaper also. Just trying to help.

If the PT-54 and the 65s are good into the low 10's and you are still an eleven second car (are you?), I don't see the immediate need for the 72s. IMHO, 72s are more injector than you will ever need with a PT-54 on the street. To get from 11.0 to 10.0 is a huge step.

The single Walbro would probably have trouble keeping up with the 72's in the event you do push them close to 100%.

With 72's I think an ATR double pumper would be needed to ensure enough fuel flow volume to maintain pressure at high duty cycles.

gnttype.org fuel flow charts show a 340 can run to ~45GPH @ 70 PSI. This is about 300 lb/hr of fuel (assuming 6.5 lb/gallon for gasoline)

Scott (and everyone else), I appreciate the replies, the reason I was looking at 55's or 72's is because there is someone on this board selling brand new sets of these at great prices....I agree the 65's would be a better choice for my current combo, however the 65's would cost more than the 72's at this time.

My car used to be a daily driver, but that has changed, so streetability is not that big of an issue now.

As far as 1/4 mile times, I haven't run the car yet. I built the car and followed my friends 10.80 combo, and went a bit further. I am getting a rollbar installed in a week or two and then it is off to the track.

Thanks, Bill

Well, apparently the 72# injectors I was trying to purchase got sold, so I guess I will look into getting 65's.

Scott, do you burn chips for the 65's?

DCVING 6, my 50's are about 200 miles old....Just installed them two weeks ago. I also have a PTE street chip and a Joe Lubrant race chip. I promised one of my friends first dibs on them but if he doesn't buy them, I will email you.

Thanks, Bill

lol....isnt that just sad??? ;)

Funny thing is, I can change them out quicker than the spark plugs!!! :D

Most of us GREED for more power in our beloved Buicks. Spend your money once and just go with 72 lb inj. I have already gone through 2 other set of injectors. I should of done this long time ago instead of messing around with those smaller injectors. I'm sure you could find some good chip makers for them. If your goal is 10's just buy inj once and of course there is room to grow.;)
