Does anyone have any real experience with either of these turbos yet? Im interested on which one is better to use on a stock longblock with stock converter.car has some mods, slic, 3" dp,60 lb injectors with a TT chip, adj fuel regulator.

I have a 6157bb on my car and ran it for a short time with a stock converter. I would say it spools similarly to a 49 with a stock converter like I had on my old car, maybe a bit better. I have since changed to a ptc 2800 which isn't required with this turbo but really really wakes the car up. The boost comes on so violently quick that you can't flat foot it in 1st gear from a dead stop at idle, it rips the mickey's once boost comes up. My setup makes for a really really fun street car, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. In any case, I'll never buy another journal bearing turbo again.

So far Im very happy with the 60-57. Im using it with the stock converter. The car spools up well , but for hot muggy florida days. It makes very good power. So far Ive had it to 20 psi on a street chip and 110 fuel. I am having some compressor surge in the 19-20 psi range so i have to figure it out. But overall Im very happy with it and cant wait to turn it up to 24-25 psi and see what she will do.

Do you have that cool looking ported shroud? Patrick said that cures the surging.

That sounds very promising. Can't wait to hear your track results when the boost is cranked. Thanks for sharing Louie.

FWIW, we do offer the Billet 6057 with the S ported shroud compressor cover as an option. And our new style SP compressor cover would be a direct swap, if the turbo currently has an E cover.
Just a thought.

Mine is equiped with the 3in 2out set up. Id be willing to try that ported schroud housing if Pat wasnts to help a brotha out..LOL

I was thinking that perhaps the stock IC maybe to blame, but I maybe totally off base with that assumption.

These new turbos certainly spool faster than the older non billet turbos. Some folks just dont bother with 1st gear fuel on these stock converter combos. It can make a huge difference.

What do the shroud covers do? Is that like saying .63 or .83 ratio's?

If you get any times please post in this thread:

It would be nice to see some more posts in it.

Can you use the stock heat shield with these turbos? Journal bearing and ball bearing version?

Journal bearing absolutely 100% yes.

Dual Ball Bearing version, you might have to notch the rear of the heat shield to clear the water line, and you would also need a 90* fitting on the oil feed line to clear the top of the heat shield.

The special dog eared bracket for the heat shield, will be installed onto all Buick 3-bolt turbos, whether journal bearing or dual bb.
HTH
