'65 Riviera, Price???

Totally clean, perfectly straight and rust-free black on black '65 Riv. I'm thinking it has the 401 in it. It is very heavily optioned. All original and needs nothing but new paint.

Can anyone ballpark me?

Restored or original? If it's a really nice car, but not mint, probably 8k or so...maybe a bit more or less, depending on market. Either way, it's a really good looking car. Love those clamshell headlights. Put a nice 455 Wildcat engine in there and WHEEEEE!

Prolly $6-$9K or so. Depends on the existing paint and mileage.

Thats the base motor unfortunately.

Hot setup is the dual quads. on the GS model and the 425.

What color, what options?

Sounds like a very nice car, how many miles?

There is a nice 64 on ebay right now, about $8,300, reserve not met, that sounds similiar to the one you are talking about, except that it already has paint.

If you like it, you could pay $2500 because you like it. All these big prices are for dreamers. Who the hell wants a 65 RIV? I like them but I mean for resale. Believe me, nobody's looking for one. You can hardly even sell chevys today and you'd be keeping a 65 Caprice just like all these Riv owners are keeping their Rivs. If the Riv was a chevy, then you have a larger amount of buyers........like multiply by 10,000 over those looking for Buicks.

ME. That is one of my top 5 desirable cars. What design. They make killer customs, and with pretty much no work. Stance alone will make a sinister looking ride. I've seen a few in magazines like Custom Rodder and Super Rod, and they are gonna catch on like 65 66 Chevy II's. There was a time when people were like "Who the hell wants a Nova". HA. Now look what they go for. A lot of people are like Who the hell wants a '59 Chevy? Not many til they see mine and it's not THAT nice. Draws more stares than a Tri 5. And way more original. And one reason I own a GN is cause IT IS DIFFERENT (and it hauls the mail). To each his own. If I could afford it I would be very interested in this car.

Believe me, not many people are willing to pay top dollar for a 65 RIV. You might want one if somebody gives you one. While you bring up all these.....ahem......chevys.... You should have read my whole post. Oh and as far as your different 87 GN......Now and 20 years from now, it will still be a Buick......and since everyone will be collecting (inferior) chevys (why, I don't know) as they do today, they'll be disappointed your GN is not a monte carlo (that doesn't haul the mail).

No, I might want one because I think they are sweet and you never see them. I seriously doubt 75% would know one if they saw one. Kinda like "nice Monte" even though the visual similarities end with just basically the dimensions of the G Body. Just because the average laeman doesn't know does not mean that it isn't more cool than he will ever know.

As a common denominator. My interests lie in cars in general. Many great cars catch my eye. Hard to be a marque snob when you like too many of them.

If I went by what the general concensus valued I would be driving something that had no identity whatsoever. I think I would rather have the Riv. And to compare it to a Caprice?

LIKE I SAID, to each his own. And there are car enthusiasts ou there that like to step out of the norm. And I guarantee, the 65 Riv is soon to be a relatively popular candidate in the "kustom" car world. And no, Joe Dirt still won't get it.

A friend I do business with just bought a '65 Riv, completely original but with brand new paint (original color I believe), 401 nailhead, switch-pitch, everything works, nothing missing...he paid $8k for it

Let me just say that I've been looking for a 64/65 Riv for a while now. The car that someone posted on Ebay has been on there a few times and each time I try to talk myself into it. There was a nice 65 Tiki Riv featured in Hot Rod a few years back and it was on the Power Tour. They do make great customs, and one of the all time classiest cars. It's design influences were largely Italian as can be attributed to the W shape at the front and rear as well as the minimalist look for it's time. The main reason I've been looking for one is because I'd like to make a street maching w/ A/C. I've seen two of these cars in the 12s with the 455 and both were A/C cars. Sounds like a GN eh? In fact, one of these with a GN drivetrain and some GN emblems would be bad ass! Though as Red Regal T pointed out.. they aren't for everyone. Which is why I want one! BTW, last time a similar one was on Ebay it didn't meet it's reserve, but topped out at 16,500.

Like I said from the get-go.......I like 65 Rivs........but they're not worth anything. The reason they're not worth anything is because, in the over all scheme of things, there are very few customers for such a car. I'm not comparing caprices to Rivs. Caprice is to chevrolet as Riv is to Buick. And sure, for the literally THOUSANDS of people who will buy an old chevy, there's ONE guy, that will "step out of the norm" and buy a Riv. That's who these people with these overpriced Rivieras are waiting for. They're dreamers. And James, I've been to auto auctions many, many times, and I've seen cars bring much more money than they were worth on the block, only to see the seller say "NO SALE"........why? Because the bid was FALSE, hoping to suck in a real bidder.

And if Stage II were to purchase this car for $2500 as I suggested and put only $4000 into it, IMO he wouldn't be able to get his money out. He'll have to get the worth out by enjoying the car........ which is OK.

Not everyone "has" to get their money back out of a car.

Some get pleasure by driving them until they restore them or they die.

$10K is nothing for a good car.

A real car with classic lines and all steel and chrome construction is well worth $10K in this plastic age we live in.

The car is worth what the market will bear for it, not only what you might think it is worth, you being the prospective buyer.

Perhaps if you bid low enough often enough you might get lucky and get one, might take you a lifetime to do it of course....

I saw the car in a shed at a sort of estate sale. I spoke with friends of the owner who weren't even sure if it was up for grabs. I figured something like that might get some interest on this board, so, if I find out anything else on it, I'll take some pics and let you all know. It looks like someone's well-kept driver. All looks PERFECT except for the paint.
