Hey Ian, If you ever make up north to Orlando you can see the only surviving ZL1 Corvette on display at Roger's Corvette Center 8675 S.Hwy 17-92 Maitland FL. Ask him how much he paid for it.
Personally I'd rather have the $1M 82 GN that was for sale in Hemmings last year.

Actually, a true COPO car is a factory built car. This meaning that all COPO 427 Camaros and Chevelles, the LT1 Nova's, etc had their engines installed at the factory under that COPO number which was set up for individual dealers.
Don Yenko was the first one to utilize the COPO route for producing Yenko Stinger Corvairs in 1966. But a Yenko car does not mean it is a COPO as Don also did engine swaps on pretty much anything. Some of his lesser known "non COPO" cars were Yenko turbo Stinger Vegas and Yenko turbo Z's (Camaros).
Before 1966, COPO was used for police cars, taxis and any other special option package for individual dealers. The true COPO cars Don Yenko had built with COPO were
66 Corvair Corsas
67-69 Corvair Monzas
69 Camaros (427 powered)
69 Chevelles (427 powered)
70 Novas (LT1 powered)
The COPO option for a 69 Yenko Camaro came with the disc brakes, 12 bolt, Z28 style gauge package and other suspension pieces used on the SS packaged Camaros BUT with out the SS specific trim such as the hood with the 2 fake vents, SS emblems, etc. All Don did to them at the dealer was add his special decals.
The earlier 427 Camaros sold by Yenko, Nickey, Baldwin-Motion, etc were the ones that started life as 396 cars and had their 427's installed at the dealer level. Those cars are not considered COPO cars; but still valuble and desireable none the less.

Copo Pete over on v8buick.com has a real COPO 69 Camaro that he races....yes I said races.He runs the Pure Stock class,the car has gone low 12`s on polyglass tires

ya I am sure "some" are used .. even raced !!! but go drive the car on the street ... they are really "old tech" .... nice to use for a week then throw em back in storage an hope they go up in price

Frank,It appears that both Corvettes are still around as the one at Rogers is yellow. I know this one is legit because of all the paperwork that is displayed with the car. I doubt that anyone has the knowledge or is crazy enough to spend the money to make a clone and than try to pawn it off as an original.....but than Vette owners do have the reputation of having more money than brains. Eric I bet there are more 66-67 big block vette's than were made by GM !!!! Neat cars but what can ya do with them ???? Can only look at them so long !!! I can have a car a month now ....thats it !!! talk about attension span or maybe its just old age

Ha, unless it's a fixed price auction, that is way too high for a starting price. The whole point of an auction is to have a low low price, such as 1$, and then it attracts more buyers. Setting it at 115K will attract few, if any buyers. Uhg, I hate when people set their auction price to the value of their car. It's not an autotrader ad!

I don't know for sure but. I have a 1969 Camaro SS/RS 396. It's got the M-21 factory in it as well. When I asked the same question years ago on the Camaro boards I was told that GM put the M-21's in lighter cars. With a high HP engine, low 4.10 gears and a light car, you didn't need the low first gear of the M-22. This was typically put in the Chevelle’s and other heavier cars. I don't know if it's accurate but I like the M-21 in mine. If I only had a 5th gear I'd really be happy. 3200 RPM's at 60 MPH in a 35-year old big block on a hot summer day is no fun.... Can't really use it around town much but it's a blast to drive and always turns heads, lots of fun! With 2 other GN’s I’m lucky if I get the Camaro out 5 times a year…
