Well, this is slightly off topic, since it a question regarding the tranny in my 87 Bazer. It is a full size 4wd balzer with a 350 and the 700-R4 tranny.

I have a problem now with the tranny shifting extremely late. It won't shift up to the next gear until about 4500rpm. It all started last weekend when I had to back an extremely heavy boat on a trailer up a steep hill and really put a load on the tranny in reverse. The next morning the shifting problem started. At first it was only when the tranny was cold, and once it warmed up it shifted normally, but it has gotten worse and now always shifts late.

I'm going to drop the pan saturday and look around, but I was hoping for some tips as what to look for. I'm hping it's just a sticking TV valve or cable, but Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

The throttle valve is most likely sticking. With the engine running and the trans in park disconect the tv cable from the TBI. Give the cable several sharp tugs. Sometimes this will unstick the throttle valve. If this doesn't help, the valve body will have to be removed and cleaned assuming there is no trash in the pan or filter.
