82 Buick Regal Help

Just bought my Regal, and have spent a few days reading around on how to get started to fix it and have it pass smog. The car is a Limited, with 56k on it. Its in pretty good condition, despite its age, but I took it to get smogged and it failed miserably. The engine is misfiring and it smokes a bit from under the car. Also, on a scale of 1 to 10 in automotive expertise, I'd say im a 5 at best, with most of my experience coming from owning an import.

My question is, how do I go about fixing the misfire and passing emissions without having to overhaul the engine? I want to just run the car at stock, and cruise around. I dont want turbo, or a 305, or 455. Just a naturally aspirated v6 3.8 that will allow me to cruise. If this is not the forum for help, can someone please point me in the right direction. I've tried G body forums also.

Welcome to the board

Post some pics! You will probably have more luck in the "before black" section. They are all carbed cars. Sounds like you have an ignition or carb problem. I would just start with the basics like plugs, wires, cap and rotor.

Ooo. I'll try to post this in the carbed section along with pics as soon as I can.

I've gotten some wires and plugs, but can only locate about 3 of the sparks. Are the rest underneath the intake area? Also, how difficult/pricey is it to replace the distributor cap and rotor?
