Just curious, what do ya think one of these in "fair" condition might be worth? Is it the same as a G-body? I saw one f/s sale today and it looked good from the road but when I got out to look at it, it was pretty rough. It's cream with tan leather. It has a lot of suface rust maybe all the way through in some spots and the leather interior is shot. The sign in the window said it runs good and has a new top. No mention of actual mileage but the odometer says about 80,000mi. They are Asking $5800. I probably wouldn't pay half that for it but maybe they are worth something who knows. It looks like it would be a pretty cool car to have but for the right price.

If it is cream with a tan interior than it isn't a factory convert or someone did a lot of work to make it those colors. All factory Riviera and ElDo(no Toronados)convertables started as hardtop cars and were converted(pun!) by ASC, the same company that did the GNX. 1982 was the first year. On the Rivs all had RED interiors with a choice of white or dark red exteriors. This held true for 1982-1985. Any other colors and it isn't factory. There were a few oddballs out there that pulled pace car duty for select NASCAR races but these cars are well documented and are worth thier weight in gold. The 83 Indy pace cars had a 2 tone brown/tan exterior with a chocolate brown interior. Only 2 convertables were made and both are accounted for.One is in the Indy musuem and the other is in the Sloan musuem in Flint. Two of the most rarest turbo cars ever built by Buick are Riviera convertables. In 1984 they built 52 turbo converts and in 1985 they built 12 turbo converts. No carb turbo converts. Any factory Riv convert will have a VIN that starts out as 1G4Z67-------. If it doesn't than it aint a legit convert per say. Now as with any convert you have a problem with water leakage and the biggest problem will be RUST,RUST,and more Rust. Pull up those carpets and trunk liners and probe with a screw driver. Any signs of rust and run as far away as you can,and fast. You can't stop it, and it isn't cost effective to repair it even if you get the car for free.

Thanks, that's a ton of interesting infromation. This convertable looks pretty genuine but maybe it's just a good hack job because it does have tan interior. The exterior is actually white. Were the turbo Rivieras fuel injected?
