The 84 bq trans it has a 8cc valve body someone stole the bq body out of it.The question is can i rebuild this trans and add a transgo shift kit in it. Will it still be a kick ass trans thou.Becouse right now it has an early 1-2 shift and no shift into 2-3 or 3-4 basicly it sucks can the transgo shift kit for the grand national improve this peice of junk???

You would be better of with a BQ, BR, or KZ, OZ vb. I dont think the transgo kit hits all the points that needs attention on the 2004 R. Ck has the easiest kit around to install and comes with a new plate.

I have the kit in my 87 grand national from trans go and it is killer,I have the kit anyways allready bought it from summit. just was not sure if the 8cc valve body was the right way to here. Are you sure i cant use this valve body?If not im going to have to shell out more cash to replce it.

You complained about shift timing. If the timing was ok i would have said to keep it.

lol youre right. But the governer is the correct one thou they just took the valve body it looks like.dosnt the governer control the shift.

Governor and vb together. Not just one or the other. I posted a lot recently about governors and vb's in the 200 4R.

so could i use this correct governer with the br valve body and the all the other performance valve bodys

You use the governor that the engineers designed for the vb. For a BR vb you use a BR governor. For a KZ vb you use a KZ governor, for a CZ vb you use a CZ governor, for a BQ you use a BQ governor. If you run a different governor you will alter the calibration and will have different shift points. Some can be substituted. When we find a combo other than what the engineers intended that works well we post it so others can benefit. If you go outside the engineers calibration or our recs you are flying blind and will have to deal with the problems and aggravation that most likely will happen and waste a lot of time.

thanks for the help apreciate this.If i p0ost a pic of the governer will u know what it is from so i can get the correct valve body?

I could swear like heck that it says bqc on that valve body it may have the correct valve body?

Looks like a BQ vb. Does the governor have a spring only on the lighter weight, or both weights? Any closer pics of the heavier weight? Have any of the shift valve springs been changed? If they have id put the stock ones back in. I think transgo changes the 2-3 spring. This is not advisable.

Im not sure if any springs have been changed in it,bought it as is.The governer has 2 springs in it on both weights.Basicly it is not working right, thank god i do not have to shell more cash for a valve body:biggrin:. The fluid was very dirty when i took it out today only filled it up a few days ago with fresh fluid, now it is merky.

Its a BQ governor then. Verify the balls are sealing off the holes by sucking(sounds a little f'd up) on the governor shaft and pressing on the weights. Id pull the valves out and rinse them with brake parts cleaner and rinse the bores out one at a time. Lube the valves with fresh atf and slide them in. Be sure to polish off any burrs that may cause binding in the bore. It will take a while but it will be worth it. If there was a lot of clutch in the pan then you are probably losing the direct clutches. I doubt that it will improve with vb mods.

I found out about a transmission guy here in philly they say knows his stuff.Im just going to pull it and get it rebuilt like i should have done from the begining.I have the transgo shift kit for the grand national, borg warner steels and clucthes, red wide band, hard sun shell ,hard stator, seal kit, what else do u recomend.I just need it for about 250 horse daily driver. What causes those direct clutches to get tore up like this

The stock calibration is barely adequate for a stock car. I rec a CK seperator plate. .500 and .296 boost valves, steel pump rings, and a CK servo. The accumulator valve in the vb needs a stiffer spring. CK has those also.

What causes the direct clutches to get beat up like this
Cross leaks in the circuit and low line pressure. If you trace the hydraulic path you will see it has a lot of potential bleed off areas. In the stock calibration only the inner portion of the direct piston is used to apply the clutch pack. It doesnt have a lot of surface area.
