84 GN what could cause this?

I have an 84 GN with around 65K miles, over the last little bit I have noticed it wanting to jerk and stutter under hard acceleration i.e. getting on the interstate. The jerking seems to happen around the 2-3 upshift and feels like it shifts to 3rd then back to 2nd, then back several times. I had a transmission shop check it out and they said it didn't feel like a transmission issue that it felt like a flat spot in the fuel map. Could this be fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel line, egr valve related? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a scantool? You might want to check your knock counts during that shift. I've heard it's possible for transmission shifts to register on the knock sensor.
