Does it get that complicated? It seems straight forward to me..but by no means am I looking forward to screwing something up..thanks jerryl

Not complicated at all if you know what to look for. Read up on setting the cam sensor before you pull it. "I" would also prime the motor before turning the key, and make sure the balancer is tight, and crank sensor and pump clearances set correctly . . . Other than that, its easy. Having some one who has done it before will save lots of heart ache, and prevent another "For sale" thread. Lol.

I hate to ask all these dumb questions but can you go into little more detail on how to 'prime' the motor and set the cam sensor and all of those things..I'm trying my hardest to do this without any help because I really don't have anyone that has done this before..I appreciate it Jerryl!!

Prime the oil pump with a drill and a oil pump priming tool or use a old cam sensor or distributor shaft cam sensor setting directions are on the board somewhere.

I'm confused as to what priming the oil pump means...and what does the cam sensor setting have to do.why can't I just plug it right back in..

Lol I'm so sorry if I sound completely stupid right now. I'm trying to learn all this crap

When you replace the timming cover you must remove the cam sensor that's job is to control timming of spark and camshaft instead of a distributor. The new timming cover may or may not have a oil pump in it either but these timming cover/oil pumps are not self priming you must fill engine with and manually prime the oil pump until you get solid oil pressure on the gauge or take off the vc and make sure oil is getting to the pushrods/rocker arms if you dont do this the motor is toast and the bearings will be wiped out from no oil pressure you will notice the drill will spin real easy snd thrn drag and the drill rpm will drop 3/4 the oil pump priming tool will look like a rod with a 7/16 socket on the end with a flat head in it to drive the oil pump look in the hole there will be a slot that the oil pump tool lines up with then search for the cam sensor setting instructions and take a note of where the crank sensor is on the reluctor wheel behind the harmonic balancer.

Wow...I think I'm in way over my he's on this simple project.. Where do I find these tools...I was also told that I only need to prime my oil pump if it is a new motor never fired before which is not the case..

Also where is this balancer at? And will a timing light work?

Not over your head if you can read, follow directions and post pix, and it seems you can do each.

You will have to remove pretty much the whole front of the engine. It looks like a lot but if you take pix and make drawings of how things go you can put it back.

Pack the oil pump with Vaseline when you put it back together so it will prime. And put things back how it came apart. You might find you like twisting wrenches.

Hahah thanks man...I'm actually enjoying this besides the fact that my mom chased me with a shoe because I have no transportation to and from school and work lol. You should have seen the look on her face when she saw the front of my motor missing. But besides that I like it...unfortunately no matter what I do, I can not break the fly wheel bolt. It will not come out or even break loose..I got leverage and everything but I toke two ratchets already. I have a compressor and air tools and none of those work either..?! Helllllppp

And Vaseline? Where do I apply this? And once I do apply this..my oil pump is primed? I thought I needed a tool for that.

You'll need to block the flywheel so the engine won't rotate, then use the ratchet with a cheater pipe to break it loose.

I did that and I'm on my 3rd ratchet today...no matter what I do..it won't break loose

Go to AZ or one of the parts chains and you can "rent" a 1/2 breaker bar. Don't tell them you're going to use a cheater on it though. Even if you break it you can return it.;)

Oh they're closed at this time on Sunday more than likely so I guess tomorrow it is!! Stay close because I will probably need your help again tomorrow. Thanks Charlie !!

Take your time and slow down.
Because if you do not,you are going to make a timing cover job, grow into something more
Complicated!!!
