As I stated earlier. The 250 does NOT have second gear clutches. The band must do all the work, all the time. It's not that much surface area on the band and the servo is small; ie. low apply forces.Originally posted by 84ZZ4
Well, that still doesn't tell me much. IIRC the TH350 uses a band for manual second, and it's a fairly strong trans (even in stock form).
The 350 does, in fact, have a little band for manual second. It doesn't stop the drum during a manual 1-2 shift though. The clutches do. The band merely provides engine braking by preventing the roller clutch from overrunning.
To answer your other questions, yes, the speedometer gears and planetaries are the same.
