85 Gn code 12 please help

I just learned how to do a computer check with the paper clip trick. I tried it but nothing. Then I opened the dash to find out the bulb was bad. I replaced it and as soon as I turn the car in the on position but not running. There is a code 12 without the paperclip in... Is that normal? I havent been able to start the car so I am searching for problems. I was told, With the car on use the paperclip and the codes will come up. The code 12 comes up without it and when I push the paper clip in nothing else but code 12 comes up...Anything?

Normal- the code12 comes up about 5 times before and after a trouble code-if you re only getting the code 12 everything is alright, If you had a 12 5 times then a 42 5 times and the a 12 5 times means you have a problem in the code42 area.

I realize that a code 12 is fine but as soon as I put the key in the on position without starting the car the service engine light starts blinking without the paper clip in the connector. I thought I had to put the paper clip in the connector for it to flash. This is what I am worried about. I'm thinking that the A & B spots on the connector are somehow shorted together either threw the wiring or there is a problem with the computer. I hope I'm WRONG! I just bought the car a few weeks ago and dont know much about GN's but Im learning! Anyway, Like I said, I read to put the car in the ON position then insert the paper clip into the connector to make the codes flash threw the service engine light. As soon as I put the car in the ON position the service engine light starts flashing without the paper clip in... Is this normal?

Disconnect the single orange wire connector coming off the battery positive terminal-this will erase any codes in the computer,when you put the to the on postion the check engine should come on but not flash,once the motor is started the light should go out unless there is a problem.

I havent been able to start the car yet. The fuel pressure is bad and I have lost spark. That is why I am concerned. I think maybe it has to do with the computer. Is that possible? Like you said it should NOT flash when the car is on. Its like there is a jumper between the A&B connections on the connector under the radio. Any other idea why it may do that?

Possibly a bad ground connection- make sure your terminals are tight on the battery-you may also want to check your battery voltage-with the car off you should have 12.5 volts, with it running 13.5 volts, check your engine to frame ground under the turbo area and a good ground from the manifold/head area to firewall.

Ok, Got the car unning today. The fuel pump must have been weak or partially clogged. Car runs like crap for alittle while then seems to settle down but shuts off about 30 seconds after...The flashing engine light is still blinking 12! Any ideas?
