i just bought an 85 riviera 3.8 turbo.. i wanted to know if the short block is the same as my 87 grand national.... they look the same just intake, exhaust manifolds and the accessories look diffrent

the block is slightly different, but functionally, the long blocks are identical, with different stuff bolted to the outside of the motor.

The '85 Riv (E-body) is a "hot air"; no intercooler. The turbo is on the back & the coilpack is in the front. The turbo is mounted a little different than on the G-body; but it is the same engine.

:android: mini hi-jack alert!

Can you make a turbo Riviera fast?

I'm planning/hoping to on mine...
Its got similar weight as a G body,
The trans is a front drive used in the ElDorado/Toronado/Riviera E bodies: a THM325-4L; its basically the same (internally) as the 200R4
& a hot-air 3.8
The exhaust is a joke though, a single little soda-straw pipe!
I'm thinkin' an 3" single shot to open it up & keep it "stock"-ish looking.

The "E" bodies were front wheel drive (Riv/Toro/ElDo)
but the engine is in "normal" front to rear alignment...
kinda weird:geek:
