To answer your question as far as benefits to a stocker , not where you want to put your money. The other problem that jumps out is that the seller doesnt know what size turbo it was milled for.
 
The exhaust housing is milled for a specific exhaust wheel size, without knowing that, then the exhaust housing isn't worth anything.
 
ooo i didnt want to buy it since my turbo is blown anyways... just curious to what benefits this type of housing would produce... even if it were milled for say the stock turbo... does it just help spool up what?
 
A bigger A/R usually will slow spoolup and allow better breathing at higher rpms.....kind of like moving the power band up to a higher rpm range.
Say I have a TE61 with a little bit too loose of a convertor and only a .63 exhaust housing A/R, and I have a problem with it burning the tires off at 10# of boost. I could put a larger A/R housing on it so that it slows spoolup so I'm not smoking the tires, and would then have more power at say 20# of boost than I had before with the smaller housing.

thanks for the reply... do they also make housings that increase spool up speed? or would that really take away from the top end?

Thats's what a smaller A/R housing will do, at least to some degree. If you have a big compressor wheel, there's is just so much you can do to get it to spool faster by reducing the A/R of the exhaust housing, and yes, it will reduce air flow out of the turbo so it will take away from top-end power.
Kind of like a water hose, the further you reduce the size of the hose end, the faster the water will come out (which would spool the turbo faster), but the more pressure will build up in the hose, while volume of water coming out is reduced too.....same effect on the exhaust housing.
The exhaust wheel needs to be somewhat proportional to the compressor wheel, can't have a big compressor wheel and a tiny exhaust wheel to try to turn the compressor.
