86 Monte Tranny to 85 TR?

It's probobly been posted some where...I'm just to lazy to do a search. I know that the Trannys for the 84/85 TRs are different from the 86/87 TRs. Would the tranny simply bolt up or would I have to change out some things before puting it on (what things would I have to change?). Reason I'm asking...There is a 2004r for sale for $300 from an 86 Monte, Torque Conv. and all. Also...my tranny is close to its death bed.

Only thing is

Lock up wiring would have to be changed. Other than that it will work just fine .. Oh yes the speedo might be fast. You could change just the gov and driven gear and be fine. Also , you may want to install gn servo, but I'll bet you are ok as is if it worked well at the time it was pulled out of the Monte. I would buy that Monte trans if it wasn't on the other side of the earth and they charge more in freight from there than what we would pay. For you , on a island, it would be a great deal.
