Vehicle speed sensor. What does it do? Does the speedometer signal it? If so, what happens if speedometer cable breaks? Anything shut down?

The VSS comes off the back of the speedometer. If the cable breaks you won't have any converter lockup, will probably set a code but nothing should shut down. Also depends on what chip you are running.
