I changed over to the 87 ecm a long time ago but never wired up the air temp sensor so my check engine light go's out. What does this sensor really do, it cant be much if it runs fine with it not even hooked up. Or will it help if i hook it up.

thanks guys:)

Try this instead. I got this trick from GNeric.
Run 20 gauge wire from the C11 port to a 2200 ohm resistor(Radio Shack) and the other end to ground. You can run the other end to the D12 port, black wire(ground for TPS and CTS) The computer reads this as 76 + or - and the car doesn't run rich. I have checked this with my Turbolink and everything is working real good. This is a lot easier to do than run a mat wire through the firewall and connect it to your ECM.

I have the sensor but i might try what you say, with this not hooked up in any way , can it make my car run rickh or lean or do any thing to it , my car seems to be hard to tune and thought maybe it could be part of it.

thanks :)

Most aftermarket chips ignore the reading anyway. I'm hooking mine up only so I can read the post intercooler temp.

sensor

It reads the temp. of incoming air. On real hot days, it will trim the timing back. Mine layed in the floor for a while until I got time to drill and tap for it.

If you ever get Tlink and use the optional boost sensing equipment the MAT gets bypassed. The plug for it winds up being used to plug into the boost sensing harness. So now the only purpose for my MAT sensor is to plug up the hole in my K&N!
The MAT is obviously not a critical component.
