Hi all...not all that educated on GN's yet but I've found one for sale and need help figuring out what it is worth.

It's an '87 with 60,000 miles. Owner has a receipt for a recent motor rebuild...over $4k. Also has full performance exhaust. The car has rust on the bottom of the doors, right through at the front of one of them so that will need to be fixed. No other rust. The rest of the car looks good, paint is decent, a few imperfections here and there but no dents. The wheels need to be refinished as they are starting to pit a little and will need tires down the road. Interior is close to mint with factory stereo. Runs and drives well.

The seller is the 2nd owner and has the original bill of sale.

Ballpark, what is it worth?

Thanks for the help!

$8k

Probably $2k in rust repair paint and tires. Maybe more.

Why did it need a motor rebuild at 60K miles?

First question I would ask.

Check it over very carefully for signs its actually 160K miles and garage kept.

Not that it matters that much IF the motor was rebuilt properly???

Original numbers matching engine and tranny?

Lots of options?

Look for signs of a race car converted back to stock and ask some questions along that line.

Look at a lot of the fasteners etc. on the engine turbo fuel system etc.

What other mods.?

The previous owner had it parked in a garage for quite some time...may be the reason for the motor rebuild.

There are no mods, not sure about options. I know the shop that did the motor and they do good work.

I knew a machine shop that did good work, too. So good, it ended up costing me twice to get it right and about 2 months of downtime. Make sure they have done their homework when it comes to buick motors.

I agree with salvage. Even though it sat, the rebuild at 60k would raise a red flag. These motors can go for at least 150k if taken care of and not detonated (I know, I've owned 2 with 150k+)

So I lied about the mileage...I've been looking at too many cars.

There is a 105,000 on the car, 25,000 on the motor.

I'd say between $6-7k would be fair. If the motor does have 25k miles without issues, then it more than likely won't.
Good luck.

If I only knew then ..............
I would NEVER buy another TR without hooking up a scan tool and driving it.
If the owner does not "want" a scan tool hooked up, it is a flag as well.
