87 t-type just shut off while driving if i try to start car will crank then run for a second on the first try after sitting for a hour or two could it be fuel pump?, I do have fuel coming up to fuel rail under hood what should fuel pressure be? Is there a way to check ignition coil and module without having new part to plug and play? Car has only a chip and exhaust for mods, no scantool at this moment. Thanks for any help
 
I think this is the best way as I usually just lay the plug wire on the valve covers and look for spark.
Pull plug wire.
Insert spark plug.
Position plug & wire so it is not touching metal.
Have someone crank car.
See if there is spark.
 
Next check the crank sensor. It can be a cause of "sudden death"....ask me how I know.:rolleyes:
 
turbonut85 what do you mean "sudden death" do you mean for crank sensor or "sudden death" for something serious like motor?
 
I mean when you are driving down the road...or in my case accelerating down the on-ramp...and the motor just quits. Shuts off and that's it. Crank and no restart. My crank sensor was loose and contacting the reluctor ring. Then it finally destroyed the sensor and the car died. Your problem sounds a little different since you say it will restart...however, you might wanna check it out anyway. Good luck. HTH ---Keith
 
Thanks, I think you might be right since my restart was more like wishfull hoping car doesnt run its more like a sputter for a half of second LOL. I will check it out with all the help here I should get something done. Just less than a year ago and 2000 miles I had new ign module, coil pack, ecm, cam sensor, chip, tune up and car was fine until I took car in for a trans check and when shop told me when they backed car out car shut off and did not restart I knew something was up cuase they tried car after a hour car ran I picked up drove for about 25 miles parked at work then when I went to go home later that day drove about 5 miles and it died at 50-60 MPH had it towed home and here I am.

:D Well thanks for all the suggestions to try and fix car but, it was the damdest thang my plug at ECM must be shot if I push on plug car runs move plug a little no run I have a t-top car with ECM relocted inside a custom glove box compartment so I have a few extra ECM'S from the previous factory location wettin' up. I wanted to check if I was sure if it was the plug so, same outcome with 2 of ECM's so now off for the hunt for some new plugs for ECM to splice them in. Again Thanks for help TURBO BUICK NATION
