Hi Everyone, new to the forum. Just purchased a nice 87 Limited T that has been abused a little at the race track but for the most part is a nice car, has 95K miles. Question is when I first start it there is a rapid clicking or ticking sound coming from the front of the motor. With the hood closed you can't hear it, however. I put the stethescope on it at the water pump and I can hear it there. Nowhere else. After it warms up for 5 minutes the noise is almost 100% gone. I know I need a water pump because it is leaking a little, so that needs to be done soon. Does anyone have any ideas on the noise? I don't know what work, if any has been done on the motor. All I know is it it very strong has no other noises and runs great. The serpentine belt looks old, could that click? Thanks a bunch, guys...

I would start with the above, if it still ticks after that I would look at the cam sensor area.

I Agree with Joe,mine sounds like marbles rolling in a metal garbage can downhill for @5mins and then quiets down.Been doing that now for over a year. Will it break?...One day I'm sure Will my wife be with me when it happens to say I told 'ya so,but has no clue what just happened?....You betcha!:D

Thanks guys for all the help and comments. I was just hoping no one would say it was something more serious like a timing gear or chain...but I guess that wouldn't go away after 5 mins...
