88 Turbo on a 109 block 136 mph 9.97

Well this weekend at Turbo Thunder Ryan Guy got his 88 on a iron headed FULL weight car to run  9.97 @ 136mph:D
He uses the blue bottle to get it to spool but he still has a 109 block and i believe stock main caps:D What i cant believe is the temp was close to 100 deg and (2600 ft) im sure his 60 ft was bad like all of us:cool: That block and crank is the same one,s he has be beating for years.. That block took some real HP this weekend to do that and lived:eek:

88 turbo with a stock block is just insane!!!!!

How much boost was he running to go 9.97 @136mph?

Oh
Did i mention stock axles and rearend:eek:

Are you serouis? stock axles..holly crap:eek: that's crazy

What where the 60ft's?

Is this a aluminum headed car?

A local guy here had talked about running one on a stock based block. An "88" turbo is a monster and on Stage 2's they are propelling them to 165mph+........

Ryan is one crazy guy to be running one....

If memory serves me right when I talked to Terry Ryan about a year ago that the engine has billet center caps, stock GN crank/rods and TRW's with JE pins. The heads are iron and so ported that they had to use epoxy to fill up some of the thin areas and valves larger than 1.77 for the intake. ALso the combustion chambers were reshaped as well slightly to accomodate the larger intake valve.

The intake runners have had aluminum welded on top where the injectors are to straighten out the airflow path. Many many hours of labor into that setup. Same engine that went 9.99@135.99 mph with a TE-76 turbo and 30psi+.

Geno- was he running the stock ECM last time I heard still with 7th and 8th injectors and (6) 55lbers.... or is he running a FAST/DFI fuel management now?

He has a Felpro now:)
I know him and Terry have alot of work in those heads but i didnt think he had steel caps:) I do know when Terry ran 10.2 in his car it had stock caps:eek: Those guys like to take the stock parts to and past the limit:eek:

We're talking about an 88mm turbo.... The GReddy T-88H turbo that you have is actually a 72mm turbo last time I checked.... An 88mm turbo is a LOT for a little 231ci motor especially one with self ported factory iron heads (most guys with Stage II 274ci Buick V6 motors using an 88 turbo either have ported aluminum GN1 heads or ported Stage II heads that flow MUCH better than the factory iron heads can ever flow even when they are fully ported to the max with larger valves)..... The 88 turbo is way too much for a stock iron headed 109 block motor, but it sure is cool to hear about someone crazy enough to try it:D

Your memory is right on gnx7:)
Ryan does run steel center caps and ARP bolts for the rods and mains:) I just got off the phone with Terry and we are going to meet up at Portland this weekend for the night street legals. It should be fun to mess with some people;)

damn! 30 years old and my memory still works ;) .....

Wish it archived more relevant info than just car stuff.

I'm curious how fast that "88" will go in his full weight car. I'm sure it could go 9.60-.70's.... if he went 9.96 in 90-100* weather.

Ryan Guy has some major kahones to turn the wick up on that turbo, spray NOS, and run the factory "109" block/crank/rods......

I'm going to be cautious turning up the wick on my "70" as I want this engine to last a few seasons if possible and mucho street driving.

You really shouldn't have to turn up the wick all that much with your car to run low 10's or even high 9's considering how light your car is (2670lbs)..... Having a lighter car like yours is a whole LOT easier on the motor and drivetrain!
