How does a Pts 911 3500 stall lock up converter compare to a 9.5"non lock up 3500 stall PTC converter? I know the PTC 9.5s are very good but how well would 911.with the same stall compare to it ?

The question can't be answered without knowing your combo and what your goals are. The 9/11 is a nice piece but i have never saw one that stalled any where near it's stall rating. A 3400 stall 9/11 may stall 2400-2600 at 0-1 psi. If your combo doesn't need much stall it will work well. Lets see what your goals are and I can advise from there.

Stage2 RPE motor , gn-1 heads, bgc intake ,70 mm throttle body, TA headers, RJC 325 front mount ic, Bosch external pump ,129 lb injectors, 12 bolt rear, reworked trans t70-t76 bb turbo 4 bolt. 8.8 sec 1/4 mile- mostly a street car.Set up on E-85.224/224 roller cam with .587 lift.

I've been through several convertors including two 9x11's. The 9x11's were good convertors but it seemed that I was continually driving through them and they were slow to respond. More power, more RPM = same speed, same ET and never broke into the 10's. Finally went to Dusty at PTC and only regret is that I didn't call him 5 years earlier. Car drives and shifts extremely well and I only have one run since it was installed that was not in the 10's and that was the first test run. Efficiency is extremely good and it may take 100-150 RPM more to go highway speed but I'm not concerned about gas mileage. I assume with your build that is not a big concern for you either. :D

Best of luck with your decision.

Reworked trans? Are you planning to run 8's with a 200-4r? For something with an 8 second goal I wouldn't consider a lock up converter at all. You'll want a 74-76mm turbo with that engine.

ultimately i woiuld like to run high 8s low 9s, eventually probably with a 4l80 trans , i have a rebuilt 200r4 and a rebuilt t-350 trans for now til i can get the car dialed in.

Good luck sourcing a converter that will work with the 4l80 and spool and couple the potential of that engine. I'd go directly to a 400.

I love my 400. Everybody ran 3 speeds and 4.10 and steeper back in the 70's. I am cool with 2500 rpm highway. The car still gets 17mpg +.

Yes, the same spline count. For a fast car, the gearing of the TH400 is awesome. It is also nice to have the full manual control. At first I thought I wouldn't like it. The issue I had with a big turbo and a 200 on the street was during spool up from a roll. With lag and low boost in first, the 1/2 shift was too early, hit 2nd, and dropped the rpms, so serious lag, unless you hold the gear out or do a rolling brake torque.

looks like i might be going to a 400. thanks, how would a 411 spool gears work in a 12 bolt with the 400-thats what i have in there now-bought from billyt.

Thats a steep gear. If gearing for low 9 sec power and rpms in the low to mid 6000's rpm range, the stock 3.42 can't be beat. 4.10 is alot of gear for these cars unless you have a TALL tire.

The 200r converter will not interchange with a t400 and neither of those will fit a 4l80e. 3 different converters. For that combo stick with a t400 and 3.23 or 3.42 in the rear.

I know I asked if the 350 converter will work on a 400 trans- thanks for all the input.
