Never heard that story before! Wow!

How in the....

Was it racing meth you were using?
Did you have any false knock readings on the shifts or launch?
I remember reading the combo but just can't seem to grasp the fact that it went 138. Certainly not calling you guys liars, but, did any of you actually expect it to go in the nines? IIRC, a 3 bar map, which would mean under 30 psi, and a single walbro intank pump, and Champion Iron heads.

well the full story.. Ran down @ Cecil County in Maryland @ a Buick track rental. When she got kick out ( no halo on the cage) we left and went back to the hotel to clean up. Then went to "find" a restaurant to celebrate. Sat in traffic for a long time. We all "thought" we remembered a few nice places "just up the road:rolleyes: ) so 2 hours later we had been in Baltimore, Md, then Delaware, then Md again. made one HUGE circle  Finally found a place to eat and a few people outside staring at the 3 of us piling out of the car. had a good inch thick rubber all over the rear quarters:rolleyes: the "looks" from people were funny.. Didn't expect a girl to get out of that kind a car I guess.

pump gas and methanol.. a dual nozzle "Alky Control System" from Julio  we have NO KNOCK !! IF ya do you better be prepared for the consequences !! 3 bar map, single pump, Iron heads, drag radials, 67 Q trim with an old V4 stock location intercooler. a very simple set up. Just like we drive it everyday.
Oh car weigh's in @ 3660 .. so its not a stripped down car.. AC, power seat and all the rest of the comfy features of a Buick ;)

I think 9s and alky is pretty easy to do(relatively speaking :) ). As long as you have a quality build. I went 10.80s with a bone stock long block at 126MPH. Race weight was 3650 and this was in 75 degree weather and a 10MPH head wind. I think it may be able to go 10.50-10.60s on a perfect day. As long as it stays together. But I did not have any knock at all. Not even a blip.

But if you want to go 9s, follow a set up like Grumpy's for a killer street combo. Or go with a more aggressive combo if you want.

9's and easy shouldn't be in the same sentence, unless you have an 8 second car.

When I say "easy" I am assuming you spend the money and use the knowledge proven combos and proven builders. I know guys that did just that and ran low 10s on first passes. Now one guy is running mid 9's and still in one piece. But I know there are a lot of horror stories as well.

It was also done in front of the whole grit eating turbo Buick world...... Not some private secret track rental...:D We also provided the time slip.

It was under 30 psi too....Can you imagine?

I guess most grew into the idea of needing what was common on 9 sec cars. Big cams, Aluminum heads, 70 mm turbos, race gas, high 9:1+ compression, 25+psi and aftermarket ECUs. This stuff "should" get you a second slip. I'm guilty of figuring that was what was need also, until I saw the low ten second stock ecm cars. I remember the seeing the TSM class in BG in 2002. My have things changed. The ET's not the Parts.
Melissa's ride broke my heart when I saw how simple the combo was.

93 & Alky or 93+ Race Gas & Alky mix? Care to share Boost and Timing? If not, I completely understand.

murphster is just getting started and pushing 10.18 on a single in the tank pump 22psi
stock ecm turbotweak chip
razor dual nozzle spraying methanol
nothing but 93 in the tank from quick chek

for me its 93 and alky timing is 26/25 , boost 24

ive seen some really fast cars running only 20*- 23*

i remember following the threads on grumpy's car and there is no doubt in my mind you guy's did what you showed and put it down no talk just results.i believe having the right people around the right parts can go far, although i also believe everything mechanical can fail at any point.i went what i would consider a long time without breakage but eventially paid the price with no knock and a safe afr in my mind and the mind of others with much more experience, sometimes this old stuff just breaks.

Not to take any glory from Russ, Melissa and Dan, but let's not forget about JC.

Exactly! JCs king right now.....Top of the list!

Damon, you got lots to prove with your GIANT killer this year..... Don't be scared...:D

X2 !! Russ and I are always poking around her car checking stuff. The motor she had in the car was my Mazda motor that we put all of 12,000 miles on it.. Its driven all the time! Now it's still kicking BUT..ya the big BUT things don't live forever and if your afraid of hurting something this is NOT your game! Its not a matter "IF" it breaks..just "when" it does  :p our poor car parts are 20+ years old
