A few ideas needed please

I have a stock 87 GN with 37k miles. I had planned on leaving stock. Brought it in to our shop yesterday to do a couple of maintenance items, plugs, wires, exhaust leak. Found a crack in the drivers side exhaust manifold welds on one of the tubes. Factory weld. The muffler is bad as well. Now that it is apart I am thinking a few mod's might be ok. Not sure what to do and I know that sounds stupid. I was thinking a little extra money for a little extra performance might be in order. I have owned an 89 Turbo T/A as well, stock. Never done any mod's on one of these cars. Any suggestions would be great. I could just weld the cracked manifold and put it back together, put a muffler on and call it quits. Interested in what could or should be done if I were to spend $1000-$2000 in parts. Sorry about the length of this post and thank you for any replies.

2.Turbo Tweak or Extender Chip (Must have)
Sales on chip and injector combo.....60# injectors

3. 3inch Down pipe

4. Scan tool such as Scanmaster for basic tune

$1000.00 spent so far or close to it

$1000.00 left to spend

Alky injection?
Turbo............... Note: before buying Chip you must know if buying Alky and Turbo because Chip has to be burnt within those specs

Anyway that about puts you at 2K

actually, your only missing one thing from what I would do. Add the stainless Pypes exhaust system, and your golden

need to upgrade the fuel pump too, its inexpensive @$100, and well worth it

Scanmaster is nice little tool you hard wire and set it on the dash, it monitors the ECM sensors etc... nice to have for your basic tune and troubleshooting.

The 2 chips mentioned are the best of the best. your old stock chip is just that old and out dated, too much timing etc

you can tune with these chips, add and pull fuel and timing through each gear
you also adjust the chips via scanmaster

That's all good advice. Just add a fuel pump and hotwire kit to the list in between numbers 2 and 3, switch 3 and 4 and you'll probably be pleased as punch. Remember, before you go for more performance, doing 1, 2, my 3, and then mcasteel's 4 are a must for the safety of your car. If you try for performance with no way to supply the needed fuel (you can't make more power without more fuel) and no way to monitor the engine you're asking for problems.

One last thing. The scanmaster lets you monitor the aldl data stream while driving. Basically you can see the information going to the ecm. The major benefit to this is that you can make sure things are adjusted right at anytime. You can see if the engine is detonating, and you can do some tuning when used in conjunction with one of the aforementioned chips. My preference would be the turbotweak chip. HTH. james
 
Fuel 1st

Assuming stock turbo with upgrade to come when the bearings go, get basics for car first.
- Fuel Pump - From a GN vendor... Do not trust auto part chains.
- Fuel Pump Wiring Kit.
- New vacuum hoses, check valves, wires, plugs, etc.
- Clean out oil mist in the inter-cooler.
- Get the little K&N breather for the passenger side valve cover to keep the oil mist out of the intercooler & intake. Will have to plug the blow-by vent on the turbo.
K&N Air Cleaner.
- Chip.
- Alcohol Injection - Warning - Between the chip and the alcohol, you will be hooked. Significant kick in the pants with 93 octane gas.

When the time comes,
- Consider TE44 Turbo (Easy 40 hp & a lot of fun because your not tearing up the car). Will need your chip updated AND larger fuel injectors. In the old days, 36 lb injectors were perfect. Many more options available now so I would check with the GN vendors.
