The list from GNTTYPE.org show shows the AC accumulator as being the same part # (2724877) for both the '86 and '87 but RockAuto.com shows the part numbers as being different.

1986- GM 2724877 Delco 15-1681
1987- GM 2724683 Delco 15-1589

What gives? I just bought a 2724877 / ACDelco 15-1681. Does anyone know if it will work/fit on my '87?

Charlie, this is right up your alley......you're the man when it comes to A/C operations.

Remember that puter "gurus" put the info in but the real parts guys can give you the right answer.;) 86-87 use the same parts and the one you bought should be the correct one.:)

Thanks Charlie. You da man! I scored an NOS Delco accumulator on Ebay (it's actually black). Not sure if a 25 year old accumulator drier is still usable, but I got it cheap.

If it's NOS is should have screw in plugs where the ines go in. They're sealed with O rings. If you unscrew one and hear vacuum then it's good. If not you can heat it in the oven at 200 for about 20 -30 minutes with the caps off and then let it cool in off. Once cool put the caps back on and suck it down to full vacuum for at least an hour, but longer would be better. The desicant has to be heated to get the moisture out and then sealing it and vacuuming it down will keep it good until you decide to use it.;)

FYI, folks. Both Rock Auto and Amazon list 15-1589 as fitting an 87 - it does NOT, the large ports are at the wrong angle.

If someone happens to NEED a 15-1589 accumulator, let me know, I have one I can't return.
