I have a 87 we4 and someone who owned the car prior to myself decided to take out the ac components except for the compressor... anyways they cut some of the lines going to where the condensor (part sitting by the pass firewall) would be and when I use my heater since obviously the ac dosent work it barely blows threw the defrost vents. It turns on fine and u can hear it blowing hard. When u move the switch for defrost vent etc it doesn't have much resistance. Is this the control unit or do those lines being cut have somthing to do with it?

Thanks,
Jeremy

The hot/cold slider in the control has a cable that connects to a small lever near the bottom edge of the ductwork under the dash on rhe passenger side. Check to see if it is connected. The airflow is controlled by a door connected to a diaphram. The diaphram is controlled by a vacuum tube. The diaphram is located roughly behind the glovebox. I'm not sure wheter the door opens when vacuum is applied (I think it is), or when it's removed but when activated the diaphram causes the door to change position and direct the air either out of the dash vents or the defrost vents. When you say 'they cut some of the lines going to where the condensor' are you talking about electrical lines? The vacuum source for the A/C heater controls is a small hard plastic tube that runs through the firewall in a bulkhead fitting directly underneath the A/C suitcase (that thing that houses the blower motor and makes changing #6 plug such a bitch). If that line is cut you have no vacuum source to operate the control head and none of it will work, although the blower motor will continue to blow.

I forgot to mention that the vacuum source line runs from the resevoir ball to that bulkhead fitting and passes by the suitcase. There's another line the same size that runs with it that connects to the heater control valve near the firewall. Good luck

yes they cut the electricle and vaccume lines infront of the pass firewall is there anyway to reconnect these to somthing to make this work?

If it was me, I'd call Brian at gbodyparts first and try to locate the parts you need. The vacuum stuff I got from him came out of one of the cars they parted out and they can probably hook you up with the electrical connections too. The vacuum lines seem to be a one piece unit, meaning it replaces the lines inside the cabin under the dash as well as the underhood stuff. I see no good way to splice it together. The electrical stuff can of course be soldered. Then go find the previous owner and bitchslap him/her for causing you all this trouble. Good luck.

i dont think it was the guy i bought it from so unfortunatly i have noone to bitch slap. but trust me id do more then bitch slap the ******* that did the things to my car that i am trying to fix. good thing is it keeps me off the road so no more tickets lately. lol

No pics, but look at the vacuum resovoir, underneath the charcoal cannister. The port without a tube on it is the source for the A/C control (assuming the others are on). The heater valve (between the water lines on the intake and the firewall) is where the other one goes.
