Acceptable knock retard????

I am wodering if the level of retard I am seeing is acceptable, or if I should keep working to get it down to zero. My car is pushing 25lbs right now out of a ta49. I am running a TT alky chip and razor's kit. Under load, I will register about 1.8 (or so) of retard at WOT. Under load meaning in 2nd or 3rd from a downshift. Not from a dig in first. The alky kit is not maxed out, so I still have some room to ramp it up. Just wondering if the retard I am seeing is anything to be concerned about, or if it is minimal.

My other question has to do with plugs. Currently I am running the 44's and I understand the 43's or even the 42's would be much better at these boost levels. The car runs great, so I would like to know if there is a chance of causing any damage with the 44's (more knock), or if going to the 43,42's is just better for performance.

Transitional knock is what you are describing. The kickdown will likely jar something and register knock - even if it is the load change. If it goes away immediately, it's most likely false.

25 psi, would go with 42's at .032
 
At your boost level I would run AC CR43TS or NGK 2771's at a tight 30 gap. I dont like to see any knock w/ pump gas and alky, but your knock seems like it could be false. What kind of timing are you running?????????
 
At that boost level NO knock retard is acceptable.
 
The retard on downshift is a strong possibility as I can only pull it up with the recall button, and dont think it is there when in gear and under boost. Tough starring at the scanmaster under 25 lbs........trees everywhere ;)

I have read many times about the need for a colder plug. Am just trying to understand the theory behind it.
 
you're letting the car down shift under WOT @ 25psi?:eek: I've never done that. I was under the impression that you make a pull in third and watch o2's and KR. No amount, as others have said, of retard is ok at 25psi. Turn that alky up:)
 
Car is not downshifting at 25psi, but when put your foot into it at a 55 mph cruise, the boost comes up pretty fast when the car kicks down to a lower gear.
 
Ahhhhh, thats better. You might put in a few gallons of race gas along with the alky, see if that clears it up. If yes, add alky. If no, could be false knock. I like to tune WOT in third gear. Wayyyy too much going on in first and second to watch the scanmaster:D
