The only thing I had not checked on my T so far was the TV, until I read the procedure and realized that mine was WAY out of adjustment.

The character before me had the thing pulled ALL the way to toward the firewall (all of the cable tube grooves exposed).
How it worked, I do not know.

I consulted a local tranny shop and they said to adjust the cable to NO slack at idle position and possibly a click or two more.
I did that.
The first three gears work GREAT.

**4th will engage, if you lift off of the throttle all the way.
The moment you touch the throttle again, it is back in third.**

All of this testing took place over the course of about 8-10 miles of gentle highway driving. No WOT.

I did check my fluid, it is nice and pink but a wee bit low: about 1/8" below ADD. I will add fluid in the morning. How much would that be? 1/2 quart? More?

Thanks for any help.

I had my tranny rebuilt and when i got it back it would not go into 4th unless I lifted off the throttle or ran the rpms way on up there. It did this before the rebuild too. I had a the guy who rebuilt it the first time clean/replace the 4th gear switch. Then after having it rebuilt again it still won't go into 4th without lifting. I was told it was because i had an 85 tranny in an 87 car. I've adjusted my tv cable several times to no avail. I just got used to lifting.

Got it fixed...

I followed the instructions on one of our favorite sites....WRONG!

Took the car to my favorite, local tranny shop:
Transmissions to Go
Arnold, MO.
**Those in the St. Louis area...USE 'EM!!**
They adjusted it for me and gave it their "tweek".

I'm thrilled.
MUCH better shift quality than before and a LOT more "sensitive" pedal.
