Can I use Aeroquip Socketless hose for the trans cooler? It looks like the easiest to put ends on and it's rated to 250 PSI. They say NOT to put hose clamps on it, though. Hose clamps would make me feel better, but they say it will damage the hose. Anyone use this stuff for trans cooler applications?

TIA,
Jim

AQp socketless

The first time I used it, it got hard and stiff due to a tranny overheat from a FUBAR converter.[ Like 375*]
The replacements are OK as of now. Have a few miles on it and I am watching it closely.
The stuff is a BITCh to get the hose onto the barbs all the way!!

Probably not gonna be like the first time you used it, sorry to say! Now what was this post about again?

I've used Parker brand push-on hose fittings extensively for industrial applications -- I imagine the Aeroquip has been similarly designed.

As long as the fittings and hose are specifically designed and intended to be used together, they DO work as advertised. The push-on connection will be at least as strong as the hose's rating, not to worry.

Hose clamps aren't recommended because :
- defeats the purpose of simple push-on system
- hose clamp can cut or squeeze the hose, making it WEAKER than just the push-on alone.

Some WD40 can help get the barbed fitting on all the way, but it still takes a very strong grip to properly seat it.

I use the Aeroquip hose on my car. As said above do not use a hose clamp, youll damage the hose. Trust me those fittings are not coming off. Ive had to take them apart before and you have to cut hose all the way off to pull the fitting out. The hose they use is made by Eaton.

Thanks for the replies. I put them together last night. The WD40 worked well. Still wasn't easy. I got the hose *close* to all the way on. Up against the stop (that ring at the top), but the stop spins freely. I think they're okay, though. Expensive, but look better and should be more durable than the barbed fitting/fuel line/hose clamp solution.

I used this hose setup for my dual spin-on remote (engine) oil filters. It freaked me too, about not using clamps, so I used a pair of HD tie-wraps on each fitting just for the "feel good" factor...

The ring on my fittings spins also, and they look to butted up to the end. Mine were -10. I felt much better when i tried to pull a fitting out i only had half way in, had to butcher upthe hose to pull it.

I agree.I used them to do a oil cooler setup. This is what I found to be the best way to install them.Get all the fittings together and put them in a little container with ice in the freezer overnite, keep them in the container while you work in the garage to keep them cold.Use a hairdryer to heat up the ends of the hose.Lube the inside of hose with grease.I would take the fitting out of the container and then jam in into the hose real fast after done heating it up.It works extreemly well.I tried the other way and the hose most of the time gets on about half to 3/4 way and you have to literally fight to get it on the rest.:)

To ease installation, put the end of the hose in boiling water for a few minutes. Quickly remove the hose from the water and squirt the WD40 inside the hose and on the fitting.

You'll have to use a rag to hold the hose while your doing this quickly....obviously.
