hello people; My compressor just made a sound like the belt fell off or something but it does'nt work any more. The belt is there. It's an old speedair. I just use it to fill my air tank and put air in my tires. Also I use to airbrush my RC bodies too. But has anyone bought a compressor lately? Any recommendations? Maybe a bigger one?

I just bought the 80 gal morgan series from Northern tool for about $600. best bang for the buck out there, but probably too much compressor for most.. needs 220v.

Buy the biggest one you can afford. Look at the output in SCFM, the pressure it's delivered at and the amp draw of the motor.

Lots of time manufacturer's will use a high pressure to artificially inflate Airflow numbers. The amp draw will tell the tale. My compressor is a 7.5HP Motor and rated at an amp draw of 20 amps (I think, I'm too lazy to go look) but the bottom line is if 2 compressors both claim to produce `120 CFM and one of them draws 10 amps and another draws 2 someone's fibbin.

Also Tank Size does not equal airflow compressor output does.

Alan I have a brand new IR 10 hp screw and "WOW" you can't even hear it run. Now the pisser. I can't use it in my new garage. it's 3 phz,,,,

My BIL got a quote to have 3 phase run to his grain dryers because he found some cheap 3 phase motors. Was going to cost $10K.

From what I have seen the oilless are part time/lite duty. short life running compressors.

Had a craftsman airless before my current compresor. Killed it 3 times trying to run air tools and a pressure blaster.

Have you looked into a phase converter? My buddy needed 3 phase to run some equipment at his shop and bought one of those.

why reccommend these huge shop monsters

he stated he olny needs it to fill his portable air tank, tires and a small airbrush

sears has a little hotdog compressor , under 100bucks , , IIRC i got it for 70bucks
its small 2 gallon so it travels well , doesnt need any special wiring 110v , runs fine on an extension cord without tripping breakers , i use it for trim work (finish and brad gun) and havent had any issues

I was just kind of stomping on his thread...........Sorry...

For what he is doing I would get a small one and just figure anything after a couple years is a plus.

Don't get an oil less one. Get one with cast iron cylinders. Get a good brand name.
