ok my POS compressor died after 22 years  lookin for a new one  .. I had a 5hp 30 gal 9.4 cfm @ 90 psi .. any info ohhhh would like something quiet

Sears

Got the Sears ad today. $289 for an upright 30 gal. 150 psi unit. Not bad. I already got their rollaround 30 gal. 125 psi unit, so I can't bring another one home. The one on sal comes with air tools but they are very good quality, maybe OK for home , light duty use. HTH.

the shop at Boardwalk Ferrari has a compressor that is quiter than an occilating fan. It's a Kohler (spelling?). About 4'X3'x3'. The ice machine next to it makes more noise. Feeds the entire shop. I think it's an on-demand, no tanks. There's about 28 bays in the garage, each with air.

I just bought this one right from Campbell Hausfeld. They are having a special on it. It's 230 Volts, 26 gallons and it produces 10.2 SCFM @90PSI. It seems to be the best bang for the buck in it's catagory:

Product - Cast Iron Compressor, 3 Running HP, 26 Gallon - from Campbell Hausfeld

I had a Campbell Hausfield !! lasted since 1985-86  I want an upright I think .. Ill check out Camp H site when I get back home .. The Sears ones look like more for someone using it every now and then .. As "Tim Allen" would say "I want more POWER" ..

3.5 HP 45-Gallon Oil-Lubricated Air Compressor

I have a 60 gallon husky(made by CH) Any piston type compressor will put off some noise. The filter just screws in the head so adding your own snorkel intake should be easy. I paid 374 out the door during a special. Normal retail is 399.

I was looking at the Sears 30 gal one too a while ago, but everyone I talked to said they were ridiculously noisy, to the point where one person built a 3/4" plywood enclosure for his.

3.5 HP 45-Gallon Oil-Lubricated Air Compressor

I have a 6HP 240V 30 Gal CH that's going on 12 years old. I haven't done a thing to it except check the oil once every 5 years.

Anything with a belt-driven pump is going to be sort of quiet. My dad has a 110V Crafstman that is gawd awful loud. My CH is in the basement and I plumb the air up into the garage via black pipe. It's VERY quiet this way :)

You have to be carefull how they advertise. Running HP is much different than peak HP. As of just a few years ago, manufacturers were getting away with advertising peak HP which does not represent what the compressor is really capable of. Running HP is what really counts.

You're not saying yours has more HP than mine are you? It would be a shame if something happened to yours while it's in my care tomorrow....:p

Yes, my 6HP rating is obviously the OLD way of rating. It's probably closer to the 3HP of the new ones in reality.

HeHe, no but it's probably the same pump and motor as yours. However, I am little concerned about the lower HP rating. I guess I'll find out when I plug it in.

I bought the Husky Pro from Home Depot 60 gal Upright twin compressor
First big compressor I have bought. Now I finally can run my air tools without waiting for the compressor to catch up $399.00
Nobody had anything close for the price with the big compressor head
Spend the extra money and get HP and Volume to run the tools

Nice Husky. Looks like a 2 stage pump. Am I right? Are their any advantages to a set up like that?

I have a porter cable unit and have had it for about 3 years. It is a 5 gallon one and it runs my air tools fine. I do not grind or sand but impact wrenches and so on are fine. It is VERY VERY LOUD. It is compareable to a lawnmower with the blades on in the garage with the door down.

I have a Sears "oiless" unit. It too is stupid loud, I eneded up putting it in the attic with a line coming down into the garage and a switch to turn it on and off. Still can hear it but way less noise.
Ingersoll-rand makes very good compressors, not cheap but well built.
If it was for a business or shop I would suggest a rotary screw compressor.

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy a Kobalt from Lowes. They have a rediculous return rate on them!!!! Had the misfortune of having had to work there for a year or so, and the return rate on Kobalt compressors was way over 50%.

Not sure what you mean by two stage.

I wasn't sure either that's why I asked, Lol. When I shopped for them, the 2 stage compressors were more money for some reason. They had a tube that ran fom one piston to another and then to the tank. Most have just one line from the pump to the tank.
