Hi,

I asked a question concering octane and alky in the general tech form. Got the answer my gut was telling me so I need some alky.

As far as a chip, I'm only looking to reduce the knock I'm getting with 93 octane. Right now I'm at 17lbs. boost and I'm happy with it's performance (besides the knock) This is a street driven car and I don't think I'll ever go over 20lbs. of boost? Should I go with a Street/Strip chip that says it's good for alky and up to 17lbs. or the alky chip from Turbo Tweak?

Thank You

Get the alcohol and see where youre at. 20 PSI should be a snap with around 21-22 degrees of timing. You could maybe even go higher.. but 21-22 degrees should be safe unless you have underlying problems.

It shouldnt be too hard to do a chip for pump gas to run 17 PSI with no knock so you might want to see if you have something else going on.

Thanks for the reply, The car runs great. No issues. I just think the 93 octane fuel isn't enough anymore? I'm no chemist, just my opinion. I remember my dad talk about when 93-95 use to be regular octane back in the days.

The alky upgrade might be over kill for what I want, but I think it is a great idea that has been around for a long time and would like to do something different to the car. Sounds like the best bang for the buck.

Back on the chip... Sorry... Eric's steet chip says 18 degrees of timing can be used with alcohol injection. So your suggestion would be the alcohol chip that is increased to 21-23 degrees?

Thank You

Ive done chips as high as 25-26 degrees for people using alcohol.

either one will work i ran his street chip with alky and i just bumped up the timing to 27/24 and when i went to the alky chip i bumped up the timing 27/24 i went 4 tenths faster because of the fueling differences between the two chips.

Basically, in laymans terms, the fueling on a 25 PSI alky chip and a 16 PSI street chip are the same. The alky chips typically have more timing as the octane is there. But chips from Eric can have their timing bumped some.

If you plan on getting an alky system, get the alky chip. If you dont, then get a street chip.

Both will work with alky, one can make more power.
