Looking at getting a PT54 and SMC alky kit. Is this just a plug and play thing or am I gonna have to get a new chip and spend tons of time tunning this thing in? Any input?

I have the DIY version, which requires jet changes, and it took a fair amount of tuning to get it right, but it's worth it. Get a Turbotweak chip. He is very good with alky combinations.

Do one mod at a time. And the 54 having larger wheels may/may not spool correctly with the converter you currently have. I went from a 51 to a 54 and lost a second due to spool issues with a 3000 stall I had at one time. Its all about combinations and working them.

If your car spools insanely fast, the 54 will slow that down and make it more drivable. 54 is basically a TE61.

Ditto on the chip. Get one from Eric(turbotweak), Bailey(Extender), or Steve(Max Effort).

What would you recommend as a good replacement for the PTE44. Im looking to have an insanely fast street car from a roll. Not really looking to drag it so off the line lag is not really an issue.

Since you have a roller cam and ported heads, that 44 wont make huge power at lower boosts-
Id jump way past a pte53 and either get a T-66 or a PTE-70, add meth and get a chip from Eric

How much boost you think I should run on the street with a PT70 before it gets insane and traction becomes impossible? Is this a good street turbo for highway racing? Say 40+mph? I have a 3200 stall, is this OK? With MAF Translator, Dynojet A/F Commander, and SMC Alky, will a chip pretty much take car of my tuning for me?

As above, converter and turbo have to work hand in hand to achieve performance. The 3200 is a little loose for the 44. A 61 would be better suited.

But at lower boost levels=drivability the 44 will make the car more responsive.

Guess the point to all of this is how fast you want to go? What are you willing to give up to get it there? Lag is an issue when someone pulls two cars on you then you "have to" play catch up with an aerodynamically challenged vehicle  Especially when the Turbo Buick is not known to top end well. Like a Supra or Vette.

The 70 is one bad turbo... but you better get a lot looser converter or they'll be pulling busses on you in the time it takes to spool it. With a loose'r' converter and the 70.. it will zip up and becomes a meaner car up top.

Car can go into the 10's on a 44. Do your research into alky injection, turbo's, and converters and make the combination happen. Inproperly sizing any of the above three will leave you very unhappy.

A better way to attain goals is... "I want 125 MPH trap speed" what turbo to get me there? What alcohol inj. components? What converter to spool that turbo..based on xyz cam and xyz head work?

While somethings can be made McDonalds like.. automatic.. it takes some planning to comeup with correct decisions.

Thanx for the input but I still have more questions.

What convertor would you recommend for the 70? And how much work is involved in swapping one out? Also, is a high stall really gonna kill the street drivability of the car?

Got the car in Raynham, MA. Guy only owned it for 3 months. Before that, guy by the name of Don Kinder owned it.

Based on your question, leave the 44 on there until the car is "figured". It seems to have lots of mods that need to get figured. Including those of you you learning about it. Dont add anymore.

Converter.. for a 70.. 3600 non lockup. If you ask about drivability.. you shouldnt want a 70.

Talked to Mike on the phone yesterday. That car runs pretty well as is, alky will be a great place to start. I had the trans out of that car in Dec changin back to lock-up from non lock-up. Why people disable the lock-up is beyond me. Brand new 3000 stall 9/11 in it. Car has traction issues....... We can fix that.....
