thinking about making a alky kit of my own. trying to change set up with new turbo, injectors, and chip and money is getting thin. I went on the gntype site and I know it says you can use a bosch pump# 9580 810 021. Is there any other pumps that you can use? How much pressure does it need?

For DIY, I would actually recommend the Shurflo... you will still have to check/test it every so often, esp if you run Meth and/or leave it sit. The Razor on here has a mod for his shurflo units nowadays which I have no exp. with.

I tried finding reasonably priced meth comp. pumps, but the only thing i found that is already mass produced are the weldons... then again, they too need extreme care and maintenance, although they will likely never have an 'in use' failure IF you properly care for them... the internals are tool steel so you can imaging what dry, condensation, water mixes can do to that. This is why my crazy design (and "way too much money one", coincidentally) doesn't use a pump. But I am still using Shurflos on my own personal ride and others' with no probs yet if you keep after them. Besides, they are 50 bux.

Pressure depends on your ultimate flow goal and the nozzle size. Generally, 100psi is plenty for decent atomization on most nozzles.

If you run denatured with lots of lube, the EFI pump will live longer. On the Shurflo deal, we do our thing to them. They cannot be used off of a pressure switch as they would from Shurflo.

If you run a "Mix" or denatured.. it probably may work for you.

This alcohol/boost stuff can get you greedy real quick when it comes to boost.. the system layout, connections, etc need to be 110%.. if not.. you can create a lot of carnage.

huh

If money is tight then why mod your car? Be patient, save money, & do it right. Quit trying to re invent a wheel. Ultimate goal of your car is what? To be fast or just have an alky kit to show to people at car shows?

I have been going about it slow and different from my last car. I've basically worked on the drive train on this car. I'm just now starting to work on the engine. I want alky so I don't have to run 100+ octane all the time. I'm not 100% percent sure on whether or not I want to buy a kit or try it on my own first since some say it's not to hard to do. I'm not looking to run 25+ on boost, I just want a little insurance when I do get up around 20-25 lbs.

Out of experience and this is the site where there is a lot of experience, most learned from expensive mistakes. What is the best thing to do?

I build my own stuff... but I really don't ask others if I should since I know my confidence level. I would imagine if you are questionable to whether you have ample skill or the ability to aquire enough skill then I would say you shouldn't make your own kit. You're right though, the DIY kits are easy to do and can be fun if your into that kinda thing. Just don't mess up or avoid proper tuning. Most of the real work is involved with tuning, but that is provided your kit is going to work all the time.

normally i can do anything I set my mind to, but I have been known to be my worst critic. I haven't had any dealings with alky, so I'm trying to look at all my different options and get some advice from those that have exp.

I've found several shurflo pumps, how reliable are these pumps if you only drive your car on the weekend.

When do I need to bring in the alky. My car doesn"t see any knock until around 20 lbs of boost.

Do the search there is plently of info on which pump to use from Northern Tools.

The shurflo's are as reliable as you maintain them. My personal pumps have never had any issues besides if you let them sit without use and with alky in the system.

Careful, they are not compatible with methanol.

Leave it at that

Long before there were kits, there was DIY.

A good kit like Razors is one way to go if you want all the 'figgering' done for you and a bolt-on that is proven and run by many people.

If you want to DIY, that will work too, go right ahead. Lots of people here with DIY kits. Find yourself a Shurflow pump model 2687, some high strength hose, a switch, a tank, some nozzles, a relay, wires etc. If you want more help on where to get components, just send a message back.

Shurflo 2687 will work with denatured alcohol/water 50-50 mix indefinitely. I have run this for a long time on the same pump. I ran 50-50 methanol for maybe a season or two - not a ton of experience with that but I didn't see any deleterious effects there either. Others may have more experience.

In addition, I ran my Shurflo 2687 with the pressure switch shorted out, for a few years now. My injection pressure was well over 170 psi! Pegged the gauge!

The in-tank fuel pump for a 93-95 Taurus 3.0 with Flex Fuel is a good candidate. It is 62 gph @ 0 psi (free-flow) and 95 psi @ 0 gph (shutoff). It is Airtex E2072s or AC-Delco EP438. They are $75 from carparts.com. An email from Airtex confirmed that it is a "flex fuel blend" pump despite it's low price.

Another one is the 93 Lumina with 3.1 with Flex Fuel - w/Ethanol (N15) and Methanol (N14). It is Airtex E3298 (AC-Delco EP334). It is Airtex E3298 or Delco EP 334. It is $154 from rockauto or caparts.com. It is 55 gph free-flow and 95 psi shutoff.
