I was just reading a post about propane, and realized I've never even considered it before, so I was wondering which is better overall???
I was probably going to go with Razors alky system, bit now I'd like to see what you guys think and why.

Neither one is better. They both improve the performance of our cars but do it in a different way. They also both have their advantages over the other such as cost (both initial and refills).

Someday I might even try Alky injection with ProPain to see if there is still more to be gained.

Now that's interesting...both?? Count me out on being the pig for that one, but you be sure to let us know if it works out...Neither's better?? Surely one either has more room for boost or maybe timing?? Which is cheaper?? Ease of installation?? Reliablity?? Availablity?? I could go on and on, but you guys get the point.

you will need a bottle warmer if you live in colder climates for propain and thats the one thing i wasnt comfortable with one i had my system. if i were to live in say, florida i would still have the kit.it would be easy for me to say that alky is better but that wouldnt be fair on my part cause i didnt have the propain installed long enough to really get the full effects of it.:D

Ah see there's some good info like what I'm looking for

Alky 1
Propane 0

I guess I should have done a pole

Dover, Delaware...yup...And I'm from Southern Indiana, so when I go home it gets cold there too.

The cold climate never even crossed my mind since the coldest it has ever gotten here is 16*F (yes above zero).

Just wondering what happens when it is too cold, I know the pressure will be lower, but how low? Does anything freeze up like the solenoid or regulator?

i dont think anything will freeze up but from what i understand and have been told you shuld maintane 80 or 90 psi and i would have needed a bottle warmer to do that because when it was cold that wasnt even close to being possible.:(

They both have their advantages, I just think propain is coming strong into the market and us alky guys are having to step up the benefits and refinements to stay ahead.

There will be a propane progressive..soon...

It takes racers like ourselves to keep pushing the envelope and making products better.

For a low 11 second, 10 second Buick.. looks like alky so far is winning, for a street Buick 12's or slower both offer + and - 's

Early next year project 10.50's on alky 109 block.. its coming ;)

Hey Razor...How much is your progressive kit, you know for everything.

And does anyone know what a compairable propane kit costs??

Depends..worst case scenario is 480.00 having zero items. If you have the 3 bar, or a pump already..then that number comes down.

I can do a GN non-progressive for under 300. All new.

Havent priced Propain...

HTH

I have 0 items myself, so the 480 applies to me...If I went alky I'd DEFINITELY get a progressive system because nothing else makes sense to me...Why would you spray the same amount of alky at 5 p.s.i. (or whatever you set the turnon point at) as you do at 21 p.s.i.

The pressure will drop with temperature, and it could be alot. If you run 90 PSI injection and the output drops to 80 PSI when cold, now you are not getting enough propane like you tuned it for.

I live in CA and it is kind of warm, right. But still, I boosted the car up and down the freeway eventually the bottle got colder than ambient and pressure started to drop.

With a regular nitrous warmer it just velcro onto the propane bottle. How you switch it on and off is up to you, but I could get 150+ PSI inlet pressure with a warmer and problem solved.

Actually the ProPain kit comes with a regulator and if it isn't set to max then when you lose some bottle pressure it won't affect it. I have mine set for 125psi and refill the bottle when it reads around 140psi. The lowest it should read even after a few passes would be around 130psi. Unless I am going to a really cold climate (I live in Tucson AZ) I have nothing to worry about.

Just out of curiuosity, how does propain affect your 02's?

Scott

It makes them go up quite a bit, it is a fuel with nearly the same energy as gasoline (Alky has about half as much energy). Idealy you would run a chip with a BLM lock to make tuning easier since part throttle driving keeps screwing with the 16th BLM and then affects the WOT fueling.
