Alternator connections, what is going wrong

Hoping someone can tell me where i went wrong.
I changed out my alternator the other day and due to age the pig tail broke apart.

There were two wires that came out of it, yet i can only find one.
The one i found runs down the driver side of the block.
The other side goes to ... where?
Also on the hot post in the back of the alt. are two connections, was there supposed to be a ground connected to the host post?
I am a little stuck.

The pigtail has two wires...

One comes from the harness from the driver's side of the motor. The other wire from the pigtail loops around and attaches to the hot terminal on the back side of the alternator.

I will upload a pic later if someone doesn't beat me to it.
