I'm trying to paint or polish my ratty-looking alternator.

Anyhow, I removed the pulley and fan okay, and also the four screws that hold the front and back housings together, and they separated okay.

However, I don't know how to separate the main shaft from the front housing. It looks like there are three small screws, on the inside of the front housing, but they are inaccessible, as far as I can tell.

Is it simply a press fit into the front housing?

Should I get some kind of gear puller? Is there a special tool for this?

TIA.

Don't know. I know for me my special tool would be to call a vendor and have them send me a polished unit:D
