I have my alternator out but I need about an eith of in inch to get the belt back on . What is the easiest way to get it back on . I was going to take the brackets on the driver side off but there has to be an easier way . Is there a tension belt release on the car . What is the best way to do the reinstall?

Put an 18mm wrench on the center bolt that goes through the tensioner pulley and pull towards the drivers side. It's spring loaded.

Do I lossen the bolt ? It is not moving ."I pulled it towards the driver side

It requires a good pull to overcome the spring force. Try again. Make sure that you are pulling on thecorrect bolt head. You should be able to see the spring tensioner housing.

The bolt head
i should be pulling is below the alternator next to the compressor . I am a pretty strong guy and this things is not moving . Is there a second way . I thought maybe I should loosen the the bracket that you bolt the alternator to and drop it down . The problem with this car is that I am taking every thing off for the first time . This alternator has never been off before . If I am pulling the right bolt this spring is not moving .
I wanted to have the alternator tested for piece of mind and now this thing is not moving .

I tried but there was enough room . The heel of my pink fuzzy slippers did work as well

You have to bolt the alternator to the brackets first. Then there is a tensioner that is located towards the center of the engine where the belt routes through. You need an 18mm socket and preferably a breaker bar and pull it counter-clockwise so it pulls the tensioner towards the driver's fender. There should be a belt routing diagram in your owner's manual. It will have a picture of the tensioner also.

This is the tensioner.

Its done . I was pulling it up instead of pushing it down to the fender . No muscle needed
