Warp,

On the GNX drums being aluminum, I was going by a post in another thread...

Where the hell are you GNX guys, playing the stock market???

On your steel reinforcements, do you still have the sticker in the trunk? Does it say VD6 and VD7???

Larry,

GNXs have rear drums...

:)

Michael Lis,

Your reinforcements are aluminum, or they were changed. Do you have the VD6 and VD7 codes on the trunk sticker???

:)

Nope, plain old drums (you'da thought for the $10,995 premium Buick would'a done more)...

And you wonder why it's been said that GNX was just the factory's/dealers' way to gouge their customers one last time...

:D

Welp, My Limited does have both those codes, and, it has an aluminum rear brace:rolleyes: , however, it has a steel one on the front, it was "sliced" so the only part left is a small section at the frame mount locations,,, that's what I remember seeing. That's kinda odd. I remember seeing the same on a friends '87 Turbo T... steel front, aluminum rear. Could have been a replacement I suppose, but, I'm pretty sure the Limited is all original. Oh well, maybe all non-gns did have alum.

The GNX had rear drum brakes..

WHAT?! No!

Strikeeagle... I should have a few spare moments to go out to the RPO sticker tonight and check for the VD6 or VD7 codes.

I have ZERO history on the car... they looked rusty when I crawled under the car back in October when I bought it... I'll take a magnet too.

Warp,

I submit your OEM, aluminum front bumper reinforcement was carted off by some no good...

Do you have the so-called "Canadian bumper brackets" (they are steel, see elsewhere in this thread for the P/N's)? Or are they saw your own, home made jobbies?

:)

ps - you and your insurer won't like these for a street driven situation

87 GN, original California car.

steel bumper brackets
iron drims

does have G80
does NOT have VD7 or VD7 (whatever those are).

Yeah, I bought the car the way it is,,, I haven't done anything except change the oil, and rear Tires:rolleyes: , I'm scared to mess with it 'cause it runs so good. I suppose the front could have been changed, but it seems odd. It won't effect anything as long as I don't hit something.:) The Car is from CT.

My 86 GN has the VD6 and VD7 aluminum bumper brackets and Iron drums with the G80 posi rear :D

:D VD6 & VD7 are there!!! :D

However, I was under the car, both sides, and only saw raw aluminum in the rear. The front one was painted black... and looked to have a bit of orange oxide on it (which could be from anywhere)... so I am not 100% it is factory.

Regardless, the 87 came with them.

HTH,

Welp, I've read all '86 and earlier Regals had aluminum bumper braces, it seems to be true, at least as far as with Turbo Buicks go.
Also, it seems all '87 GNs have steel BB, and not all T-types have aluminum. Pretty interesting, and helpful when shopping for used parts. Looking at the RPO sticker could help.

We know non-posi TRs had aluminum drums.

1986 GN with aluminum brake drums and bumper supports, origianlly a non-G80 car. I also had ALL of the OE body bushings upper and lower, hardtop, crank windows, manual locks, and no remote mirror operator (3280#'s w/out driver and 6 point rollbar).

All GNX's have aluminum drums and bumper brackets, with the exception of mine that has a steel front brace. (I think it's been wrecked before) I've got a replacement aluminum brace that I will install when I have time.

My non-posi 84 GN has aluminum drums and brackets.

Why is it that GM gave the non-posi cars the aluminum drums and the G80 equipped cars iron drums? They should have done it the other way around...

I believe that it was an excercise in energy (EPA) savings... the G80 cars are more efficent than the one leggers... especially since we have enough power to spin the tire in 1-3 ;)
