Sometimes y'r totally right Chicken.
And/or, be a real motor-head & DIY. I had a similar quote for a M3, so gave myself a nervous fit deciding to do it myself. It turned out fairly easy, being relatively new compared to old musclecars, parts came off/on easily at a fraction of cost of dealer. Kinda scarey about those electronic gizmo's that give tire pressure & pad wear data, etc., but really simple also & was faster than the old iron (esp. the back wheels).

I agree with you Hotrod, I should've done the brakes myself. Messing with the sensors scared me a bit too and the fact that it's my father's car. I only mess around with my own cars.

You guys need to stop going to the MB dealership for brake jobs. I took my Dad's ML350 to the MB dealership for estimate on front brakes only. They insisted that I get all four brakes done and quoted me $1600 for new everything, they insisted they cannot use the old calipers or rotors. I just left shaking my head. Went to a local mechanic and he did just the fronts with new rotors but using the old calipers for $350. This is for a 2007 ML350 with 40k miles.

MB dealerships are stupid expensive and they are arrogant when you object to their very expensive quotes. I guess they are used to people just paying whatever they quote them.

Well the whole time I worked at MB I never recommend to someone to replace their calipers along with their rotors. That seems pretty weird as the calipers should last the lifetime of the car. I would have definitely asked for a second opinion.

that's rent! I'm sure your 500+HP daily driven smog legal beast is worth it....:p

I wish my rent/mortgage was that cheap! I would be rich if it was! And until you actually drive in that car, you wont ever know how awesome that car is! Ive given many people a ride (and let them drive) the car and each one was amazed. One of them drove a 9 sec GN, one races Pro Stock dragsters, and the other is a crew chief on the Marine MV22 Osprey, all of them were pretty impressed. Its totally in a different class than GN's. If an extreme luxury car and a fast super car had a baby, this would be it!

That's cool. How fast are they in the 1/4 ?

All I can say is  If I could afford one, it would be sitting in my garage! Thanks for the ride bro....:) ohhhh. BTW...I'm probably the MV-22 dude...lol

Considering Cadillac makes "556hp" stock I doubt it will make over 500 to the wheels. Can't wait till those Dyno numbers come out. Plus where u might fit 2 adults and 2 kids, the Benz has plenty of room for 4 big adults. Plus tons more features than the Caddy. I diet buy those car for only the performance, I bought it for performance, luxury, interior space, features, etc. Even if Caddy has a bigger engine, I still got my money on the Benz for overall performance! 

LoL! Yeah ur the MV22 guy! And while this car might not be the "best" car in the world, it's the best car for us! And once we get some stock runs at the track, we will start to mod the car and we should be making around 1000trq and around 900hp. Not bad for a daily driver (that's truly dependable).

I can do lots of brake jobs on the Caddy for $2500.
The Cad CTS-V VII's, ('09 & up) runs 12.1 to 12.4 bone stock, depending upon whose magazine article test report you are reading. We have 1 on Cad Forum that ran 11.997 bone stock, including bone stock tires. Throughout the country, there are at least 5 known that are running in the 10's (modified). Only 1 of those is running juice.

We bought a few new Mercedes several years back, NEVER again... The maintenance is nuts and the resale value is heartbreaking... We still have 2 of them and every time a light comes on it seems like it is a few grand to fix:rolleyes: I would sale them but I refuse to take that kind of loss on a vehicle:mad:

Yeah, Mercedes arent for everyone. I remember working at Mercedes, every time we had one come in for a complaint and it was out of warranty and the customer would have a heart attack when we gave them the quote we would be like "WTF? Why the hell did you buy a Mercedes if you cant afford to fix it?" Obviously these cars are meant for wealthy people who dont care about $$ and could fix the car when it was out of warranty. But you always have those few people who just want that little star on their hood so they look "rich". Honestly, I would have never bought one cause they are real expensive to fix and the parts are marked up 4 times before they reach the dealership. But since I know how to fix them myself and still have hook ups on parts/diagnosis, I could afford the small stuff that come up (like brakes).

But when other people ask me about "Should I get a Mercedes?" My answer is always "No!"

And Ill still do the brakes on this car when they are due, its not too bad I guess considering this car is over $200K new. But next time you complain about having to spend another $300 or so on parts for your Buick, remember it could be worse! LOL

Hey Gary! Glad your still loving that Caddy! I know you where saying you were gonna mod that thing but I cant remember if you already did. If you ever take that thing to the track let me know! Wouldnt mind doing a heads up race to see where the wife and I are at. It will be her fast time back at the track so take it easy on her! LOL. But considering the Benz weighs in at over 5k lbs it should be a good race!

Cool thought it would be faster than that. I guess my GN can hang with one in the
1/4

Yeah, its not much of a 1/4 mile car. The thing is heavy as hell and surprisingly it still handles real well. Eventually the wife and I will have a heads up race and obviously Im betting on my GN to pull ahead!

I just want want everyone on here to think I "sold out" and went to a different car like a Benz or Supra and started bashing the GN's like other people do. I still have my GN but I wanted a car that already runs what I have stock with a lot more luxury and room for 2 baby seats. I think we are happy. I dont think the Caddy would have had enough room in the back for the kids. Hopefully next weekend I will be out at Qualcomm to make a few shake down passes and see where we are at with stock tires. You guys should come out!

I'm still loving the Caddy. 2300 miles on it. I had arranged with a shop in Signal Hill to do the work, and I asked them for a quote, and they never E-mailed me back, so I might take the car back to Indiana next year where I can get in a little vaca and get the work done by Wait4me Performance. I can lay down very close to 700 RWHP & RWTQ for about $12K or so, not including the trip out & back.

I am retiring at the end of Jan this next year, or sooner, so I will know a little more as that time nears.

So no racing yet for me, nor for the Cad.

And if I could afford & find a extremely pristine, extremely low mileage S65 I would be all over it in a heartbeat, or at least strongly consider it. So I don't think that you went wrong with the Merc.

Now that you know what the front brakes go for on that thing, I suspect that you will be cutting the driver floor pan out so you can drag your Keds a little and save those pricey factory stoppers.

LOL! I wish it was that easy! But they usually last about 40-60K miles so Im not too worried about doing the brakes every 2-3 years. The ones on their now are stock original rotors and the pads have been changed. The car now has about 68K miles. We have been driving it like crazy! Love that thing. But I talked to my parts guy at Benz and he told me that the original manufacture of the brakes sells to MB Germany (mark up) and that they sell it to MB North America (mark up) and they sell it to the dealership (mark up) and they sell it to us (mark up). The cost that the dealership pays is only $300 less than what I would pay for it with my discount. Luckily my parts guy gave the the name of a shop that gets the part straight from MB Germany so I will be paying less than what MB dealership here pays for it! Im hoping to pay about $900-$1100 as apposed to the $1800 I was quoted.

But anyways, you should make some "stock" passes just to see what that Caddy Runs! I wouldnt mind seeing the difference from the stock passes to after you get all the mods done and then see how much faster it is. Mary and I are going to the track Friday here at Qualcomm to spank some Honda's (and what ever else lines up on the "street" side).

The Q sucks. I'll never race thier again. Barona or fontana for me.

I totally agree with you! I will never take the GN there again! Traction is the worst no matter what. But since she is running stock street tires that are at the wear bars anyways, I dont plan on running anything faster than 2.2 60's. Just want to see how the car runs at the track and what times it puts down. I dont expect to see any low 7's but if we hit high 7's I think we will be happy with that.
