Assuming a bone stock TR could do a 13.9 back in 86-87 than the magic dyno wheel says 275HP.

Okay it was all paper numbers. When the turbo 3.8 was being devolped it needed a transmission. Can't get the power to the wheels with out one, correct? Buick didn't build transmissions but Hydramatic Division did. Hydramatic about keeled over from laughing when Buick said they needed it to hold up to 300 horses and 400 lb ft of torque. A compromise was made. Kind of like a sports figure negotiating a contract. "I'm going to write a number on a piece of paper and you tell me what you think". I've heard more or less that Hydramatic set the torque limit at 350 lb ft as a favor to Buick. Why the 200-4R and not something stronger like the THM700-R4 or even a THM400 that was still being used by Cadillac? Because it would cost to much to make a new case for the THM700-R4 and a new floorpan to clear the 400.

what? who the **** would want a 3 speed? and then 700 has an aggressive first gear and a lame duck second gear...

not to mention the 200 takes less power to turn than any of the alternatives...

just sayin

My neighbour proceeded to tell me, that they used to come with turbo V8's, but people were killin' themselves in 'em, so they put a V6 in instead... lol. I just grin and nodded...
And I don't know about you guys, but there was a thread, about 2 years ago or so, with people here posting numbers on their factory stock tr's, and I remember some of them with low 14 et's. Lucky to get into the 14's might have been on a 99 degree day, uphill...

And about all that "chevy is the reason they stopped the tr program" is crap.. the TR program was dead years before 87. It was because they made the decision to go FWD. It had nothing to do with "they kept beating corvette, so they had to go."

And what ever happened to that twin turbo engine buick built? That thing would have been sweet.

.
my hotair car beat up on quite a few factory stock show cars... in its day

The numbers I witnessed at Ruggles dyno, were in the 280-290FWHP range.[86-87].
Stock engines, strait from the crate, onto the dyno.

I'm sure it can. I want SOO bad to build a very stock hot air one day. I mean, I want one bad. I have a lot of plans :)
