Is the TA-49 the consensus for stock block/daily drivers?

My goal is I guess I just want high 11's. Don't know if I can get there on street gas/street tires.

87 GN - 100K miles
stock block, turbo, heads, cam, etc, etc
daily driver (really)
I take it to the track once every couple of months, but I run her REAL HARD every day on the street (when the kids aint riding along) with the A/C on...
street gas only
street tires only
street chip only (RA 93)
alchy
trainy just rebuilt
stock converter - I may go to @2800 later
009's
THDP, high flow cat, flowmasters...(I will be going to straight pipes)
power plate
new plugs/wires, coil pack, ignition module...
walbro fuel pump hotwired
radiator cools fine
stock intercooler - big neck on its way
new cc-980 valve springs going in soon
had the timing chain and other misc maintenance times done...
child seats
;)

My last run was 13.8, with a 2.0 60' time. That was without an adj wg and I think that either my governor spring or valve springs are culprit...I have vacuum brakes and I can hold some boost without spinning the tires...

On street tires, street gas, and mostly other stock items, don't expect high 11's. Mid to high 12's will be more realistic.

Looks like you need a lower timing strip chip or maybe a MaxEffort to go along with the alky if you want a real strong street car. A little suspension work along the lines of boxed lower control arms, adjustable uppers, and airbags would be good too. Then toss out as much weight as possible. I wouldn't spend the money on a new turbo with the parameters you have given.

To answer your question....

yes the TA49 or TE44 turbo are the best for a daily driver cause they both work great with the stock D5 converter. You will not see much of a difference between the 49/44 and the stock turbo until you have the boost above 18lbs (the sweet spot for both the 44/49 is around 22-25lbs of boost) and if you have good running car you should be able to run low 12's to high 11's with about 22-25lbs of boost.
HTH:)

Thanks.

I forgot to mention that I just put a "bleeder valve" on. I have turbolink also.

I haven't had a chance to tune yet, but it looks like I am now getting up to 20psi. With little or no knock. But I mainly don't "try" to go over 10-15psi just cruising around.

The alchy kicks in at @10psi of boost.

I will be doing some "tuning" this Friday night.

I'm about ready to pass out. Did he say 20lbs?!?! I've been trying to get him to turn up the boost for 6 months. ;)
