I’ve read conflicting/confusing info on this. Is Valvoline VR1 oil detergent? It says for racing and classic cars on the label. Thanks.

Oil isn't a detergent. It's oil. The additive package might have a detergent in it, but oil is not a detergent.

Valvoline VR-1 is a good Racing Oil but contains no detergents.
I used to use it, but upon learning this I switched to a high Xinc / ZDDP engine oil, that does contain detergents, since my car is a street driven vehicle .
I now run Joe Gibbs “Driven” motor oil that satisfies both criteria.
Others that also are Brad Penn (Penn Grade), Lucas Hot Rod & Classic ,amongst others .

Post made me curious. Came across this:

Changing it frequently would alleviate any concern about low detergent content.

Yes, that is correct . So more frequent oil changes are definitely needed with VR-1.
As an added bonus , A motor oil such as driven HR-2
Features storage protection additives that guard against rust and corrosion during winter storage. Which is another good reason why you might want to consider choosing it.
