Valvoline VR-1 is a good Racing Oil but contains no detergents.
I used to use it, but upon learning this I switched to a high Xinc / ZDDP engine oil, that does contain detergents, since my car is a street driven vehicle .
I now run Joe Gibbs “Driven” motor oil that satisfies both criteria.
Others that also are Brad Penn (Penn Grade), Lucas Hot Rod & Classic ,amongst others .
Yes, that is correct . So more frequent oil changes are definitely needed with VR-1.
As an added bonus , A motor oil such as driven HR-2
Features storage protection additives that guard against rust and corrosion during winter storage. Which is another good reason why you might want to consider choosing it.
This is what I have (attached). I asked my question because the label says “RACING & CLASSIC CARS”. Lots of classics cars never race, so wondered if there were any detergents in it and whether or not you should change it more often. Thanks.
