That's what I'm talking about. We all need to write our representatives and make them introduce legislation of this type. The percentage of older cars on the streets is much less and their effect on the environment can't be that serious these days. Who has some clout with government here?

Legislation authored by the Southwestern Section of TurboBuick.com.
Due to the lessened impact that cars manufactured earlier than 1988 have on the environment, it is prudent, at this time, to exempt them from further smog inspection requirements.

The fact that there is far less of a percentage (enter actual percentage here) of these vehicles on the road to contribute to the overall smog problem, and that the percentage of these vehicles on the road are dropping by ?? percent annually, and the fact that the smog problem in California has been decreasing annually for the past ?? years, there is no need to target these vehicles any longer.
Some of the other factors that will make these vehicles less of an impact on the environment:
Parts availability to repair these vehicles has been deminishing over the last several years for most models which forces them to be recycled. This quickly lessens their numbers on the road.
Some have become valuable collector cars and as such are typically garaged and not driven very often in an effort to keep them in good condition. If they're not driven, they're not contributing to the smog problem.
The majority of these vehicles that are still registered are driven much less annually (enter figure here).
Looking back at the past and present trend for car manufacturers to develop technologies to increase vehicle mileage and decrease exhaust emissions, the impact that the lessening number of older vehicles have on the overall environment will become unmeasurable in the coming years.

Additions and Amendments welcome.

We know you know what sheep farts are like, but you've obviously never been caught on the business end of a horse when it farts. For the record...neither have I. I'm only basing my statement on data I've seen published.

Follow this link and check out some of the comparisons in the article
BLOODHOUND SSC and the environment
If cows can make that much smog, then I'm sure horses can.

Aside from that...no wonder the British have a hard time producing a good, affordable car....they measure things in cow power rather than horse power...

So glad we won the Revolution.....

gotta love this !

Back in 04 an older gentleman contacted me with a problem that he has had since new with his Typhoon.Like every other one it had a detonation & pinging problem. I referred him to SMC & he purchased an alky kit. It was installed & problem solved. Now here it is five years & several smog checks later . All of a sudden he gets rejected on his latest smog renewal. He was advised to contact a referred to get it approved. This is the type of person who's law abiding & wants to do whats right. He's one of those that frets about everything & getting a smog check is stressful to him by itself. So he waits two weeks for an appointment & gets a going over by the referee. The truck passed tail pipe with no problem .But gets rejected because of the alky hose going to the inlet. For good measure he also gets written up for timing which like a TR is controlled by the ECU & oh yes he had a kenne- bell sticker on his enclosed air cleaner. Hes now a nervous wreak & comes to me with tears in his eyes . I put everything back to original & now because he's in the system no smog station wants to touch it. He's visited several & gets the run around . The other problem is because of its uniqueness the smog techs are intimidated by it much like our TR's. I'm so pissed by this I can't see straight. To put some poor law abiding citizen through this hell is nothing short of criminal. How can anyone in their right mind support this. If the state is so dam smart they should know that when a vehicle is detonating it brains out it's polluting like mad. The have effectively created a smog problem by forcing the removal of a component that should be considered part of a smog solution. But they are too blinded by their own bureaucracy. Now the same government wants to take over our health care system . We haven't seen nothing yet. If this change. Wait till Obama & his thugs fawks the rest of this up, God help us.

This scenario is just one of many examples of why I say liberalism, environmentalism and pluralism (pluralism = all gods exist and are equal) should be called what they are....
RELIGION
Then seperate them and the liberalenvironmentalpulralistic histerical laws they breed from government and let people get back to living.

Like I said earlier, the CA smog program is a BS scam. If clean air is truly the goal, then the sniffer portion of the test is all that should matter...who cares whats under the hood. I believe alot of other states do sniffer only tests.

Like your customer, I had a similar experience 10 years ago when I owned a highly modified IROC. All my aftermarket parts at the time were CA smog legal certified, complete with the CARB EO numbers. Even all my smog equipment was intact. But because I didn't have the EO number for my SLP headers, even though they were smog legal...the smog tech failed me. Never mind that I actually passed the sniffer with flying colors. I told the tech that I could get the EO sticker from the manufacturer, but he said I'd have to go to a referee station after that.

I said that....I kept the car in storage for a little longer while I stayed overseas. When I was transferred to Georgia I registered it there instead. No smog test required!!!

Hot rodders are very innovative. They will always figure out a way around bureaucracy to pursue what they love. It's never slowed me down. It's almost too late for me to move anywhere else. I have My shop ,house, my wife has a good job ( yet ) & most of my life invested here. But I am going to check out Texas later this year none the less. I heard Austin is nice.
