Hey guys. So having a fitment issue with my starter. 109 block with GN1 headers. Installed a 96 LT1 starter but had to grind the hell out of the side and beat the crossover pipe and still had an exhaust leak at the flanges due to it not sealing flat. “starter was holding the crossover very slight” Can not grind anymore on it or the assembly bolt would fall out. So I searched the forums and someone said a 16 ZO6 starter would work. Got it and it’s a no go. The bolt holes aren’t even right. But... The size of that one would of worked.
I’ve incuded photos of the ZO6 starter and part # as well as a pic of the 96 LT starter and where it’s arrowed is where I have been grinding. Any ideas guys?

DB Electrical has a low cost mini starter that works great.

We use one on a high compression SBC and one on my TR. Been about 2 years now, no problems. I'll get the right one for you when i get home, i have the site stored on my home computer. They are like $70 or so.

Thanks for the reply. I know it gets daunting to constantly answer questions about simple crap but as u can see I have searched and already spent a lot of $$.
Anyways when I look at that DB starter it looks as if they have put the solenoid right against the crossover pipe. In the pics it looks as if it would be more of a nightmare than what I have. Can u elaborate on that?

Mine didn't have any issues on either car, but then again, I bought 2 at one and it's been 2 years. I just sent a newer one out to Lou Czarnota to install on the engine/car he is putting together for me.

They may have changed the configuration altogether to fit more vehicles, dang Chinese parts.........I'll be able to tell you more in about 3 or 4 weeks.

I just put one on my GN a couple weeks ago. New LT4 Delco Remy for $102 from Rock Auto. Does look like the one you have. I run GN1 headers and wasn't close to anything. Are you using the SE headers or KB style? I am running the KB style without issues.
REMY 99719 {#10455703, 10455709, 1280008110} Premium; New

Mine are also the KB headers. And well I crossed the Remi number and ordered one and it’s identical to the 96 LT1 starter. I enclosed a pic with the 2 side by side.
Not sure why I have to be special, lol. Does yours like the one on the right? It’s supposed to be DB.

The two in that pic look the same to me. Hard to tell from that pic. Actually called a LT4 starter from what I have read before buying mine.

Well I’m of the mind all the LT1-LT4-DB and even the 10455709 are all the same. I’m fortunate that I have a store to where I can just get these starters and check them but all are coming up short. Of course others are using the same headers with these starters and are getting good results with no probs. It’s my pipe, something has got to be tweaked somewhere.
